Barcelona School Holidays (2026)

The Government of Catalonia and the National Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport are responsible for setting the term dates and school holidays in Barcelona with the exception of private schools (Escola Privada). Although the curriculum in private schools differs from that of public schools, it must be approved by the Catalan Ministry of Education in Spain.

Generally, all public schools (Escola Publica) are run by the Barcelona Education Consortium while private schools may be partially or fully governed by foreign educational boards.

In Barcelona, the school year starts in mid-September and runs through mid-June. School holidays in Barcelona comprise three terms of approximately eleven weeks. Generally, half-term is not considered due to numerous local festival and non-teaching days present throughout the school year.

Schools in Barcelona enjoy two weeks break over Christmas, two weeks break over Easter and a ten-or-eleven-week summer holiday. Children moving up from primary to secondary school sometimes get an additional two weeks during the summer holiday in Spain.
