School holidays in Belfast are declared by the Department of Education in Northern Ireland. Schools must be open for 200 days in the year. However, schools have the right to take some days off for staff training and school development for 5 days. During public holidays, school transport services will not be available in all areas, especially during St. Patrick’s Day due to parades and festivities in the city.
In Belfast, term dates are agreed by a group of representatives by considering school transport and meal services. Schools are then informed of these dates and will act upon these recommendations upon their discretion.
