Belgium School Holidays (2026)

There are three main communities where schools in Belgium belong to – the Flemish, German, and French-speaking communities. The Ministries of each community are responsible for determining the school holidays; for the Dutch or Flemish community, the Flemish Ministry of Education; the Education in the French Community for French, and the Ministry of Education of the German Community in Belgium for the Germans.

Summer holidays among schools are held from July to the end of August. School holidays in Belgium remain the same despite the different communities. School holidays are divided into 5 categories:

New Year’s Day
New Year’s Day is the first day of the year according to the Gregorian calendar.

Three Kings Day

Easter Monday
This marks the day of Jesus Christ’s resurrection. It is the day after Easter Sunday.

Independence Day
Celebrated every July 21, the independence day of Belgium remembers Leopold of Saxe-Cobourg swearing allegiance to the new Belgian constitution.

Assumption Day
Assumption Day is the day Mother Mary ascended to heaven.

All Saints’ Day & All Souls Day
These two holidays commemorate those who have departed and the saints of the Christian church.

Armistice Day
Armistice Day is commemorated every year on 11 November to mark the armistice signed on this day.

German Community Day
The Day of the German-speaking Community is a holiday in Belgium celebrated on 15 November each year.

Kings Feast
The King’s Feast has been celebrated in Belgium on November 15 since 1866.

Saint Nicholas
The feast is celebrated annually with the giving of gifts on St. Nicholas’ Eve.

Christmas Day
Christmas Day marks the birth of Jesus Christ and is celebrated every December 25.
