The school year in Cyprus consists of three terms with holiday breaks in between each. School holidays in Cyprus include summer, Christmas, and Easter. The school year officially starts during the first week of September, according to a directive from the Ministry of Education and Culture.

New Year’s Day
New Year’s Day is observed on January 1st in celebration of the beginning of a new year. This day comes exactly one week after Christmas according to the Gregorian calendar.

Epiphany
Epiphany is observed on January 6th in celebration of the presentation of baby Jesus to the three wise men. This day is also referred to as the Three Kings Day.

Green Monday

Dormition of Theotokos
Dormition of Theotokos, also known as the Feast of Assumption of Mary, is observed on August 15th. This day marks the assumption of Mary’s body into heaven.

Cyprus Independence Day
The Cyprus Independence Day is celebrated on October 1st in celebration of Cyprus’ independence from the British in 1960.

The Ochi Day
The Ochi Day is celebrated on October 28, in Greece and Cyprus, to mark the rejection to yield to the powers of Axis in 1940.

Christmas Day
Christmas Day is observed on December 25th in celebration of the Nativity of Jesus, which is believed to have occurred on the same date in 1 BC.

Boxing Day
Boxing Day is also referred to as the Second Day of Christmas or St. Stephen’s Day, the first Christian martyr. This day is celebrated on December 26th.
