King’s Birthday
This is a national holiday that was officially instituted in 2014 to commemorate the monarch of the Netherlands. King’s Birthday is observed annually on April 27th. Officially this day celebrates the birthday of King Willem-Alexander who became king after the relinquishment of Queen Beatrix on April 30th, 2013.
Ascension Day
Ascension Day is observed 40 days after Easter in celebration of the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven after His resurrection. This Christian holiday can also be referred to as Holy Thursday, Ascension Thursday, The Feast of the Ascension, or The Ascension of Jesus.
Pentecost Sunday
Also known as Whit Sunday, this day is observed approximately seven weeks after Easter in celebration of the conclusion of the Easter cycle.
Whit Monday
Also known as Pentecost Monday, is celebrated on the Monday after Pentecost and is observed fifty days after Easter.
Christmas Day
Christmas day is observed on December 25th in commemoration of the Nativity of Jesus, which took place on the same date 1 BC.
St. Stephen’s Day
St. Stephen’s Day is the second day of Christmas and is also known as Boxing Day. St. Stephen’s Day is celebrated on December 26th in Western Christianity to mark the Feast of St. Stephen who was the first Christian martyr.
