Day of the Establishment of the Slovak Republic
This day is observed on January 1st in commemoration of the day in 1933 when Czechoslovakia was divided into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Epiphany
Epiphany is observed on January 6th and is among one of the most important holidays in Christian communities. On this day, Christians celebrate the presentation of Jesus to the three wise men, also known as the three kings.

Good Friday

St. Cyril and Methodius Day
This holiday is celebrated on July 5th in commemoration of the Slavic missionaries Cyril and Methodius.

Slovak National Uprising anniversary
This day, observed on August 29th, marks the beginning of the 1944 uprising against the pro-Nazi government.

Slovak Constitution Day
The Slovak Constitution Day is observed on September 1st in celebration of the implementation of the Slovak constitution on the same date in 1992.

Day of Our Lady of Sorrows
This is a Roman Catholic feast day that is celebrated on September 15th in commemoration of the seven sorrows of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. Mary is the Patron Saint of Slovakia.

All Saints’ Day
All Saints’ Day is celebrated on November 1st in remembrance of all Christian Saints.

Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day
This day is observed on November 17th in celebration of the student demonstration against Nazi occupation and also, the march of 1989 in Prague which marked the beginning of the Velvet Revolution.

Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve is observed as a public holiday on December 24th and marks the conclusion of the Advent period which occurs before Christmas.

Christmas Day
Christmas Day, celebrated on December 25th, marks the birth of Christ.

St. Stephen’s Day
St. Stephen’s Day is observed on December 26th by Western Christian communities.
