The IGO Scholarship aims to support Curtin University students within the WA School of Mines (WASM) experiencing financial hardship. Preference will be given to those students who have relocated from remote/regional areas across Australia.

Value
The IGO Scholarship will provide the following support as a one-off payment (based on a full-time study load):

Cash payment of $2,500

The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses.

A part-time payment, valued at $1,250, will be made for students that are enrolled in less than 75 credit points

Application process

Step 1: Access application form
Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt
Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment
Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:

  • Responses to questions in application form
  • Reference
  • Financial hardship and/or low socio-economic background
  • Preference will be given to students who have relocated or will be relocating from remote / regional areas across Australia.

Step 6: Outcome

  • Outcome will be sent via the Scholarships Channel within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date
  • All unsuccessful and successful applicants will be notified

Step 7: Acceptance
Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need
  • Scholarship will commence from the semester of study for which the scholarship was awarded
  • Scholarship is not transferable to another major, course or university

Enrolment Requirements
Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Remain enrolled full-time or part-time in an undergraduate course at WA School of Mines at Curtin's Kalgoorlie campus
  • Have a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 50

Changes to Enrolment
If a recipient intends to change their enrolment, they must also apply in writing to the Scholarships Office (scholarships@curtin.edu.au) for approval BEFORE the change. The Scholarships Office will advise how the change will affect their scholarship.

Withdrawal or Terminated from units or course: A recipient who withdraws from their units or course of study, or has been terminated from their studies will become ineligible for the continuation of the scholarship, will not receive any further payments and will be required to repay to Curtin University the stipend awarded for that study period if applicable.

Cancellation of Scholarship: Notwithstanding any provision above, Curtin reserves the rights, at its sole discretion, to cancel the award of, or continuity of, the scholarship where the sponsor ceases to fund the scholarship.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered for the IGO Scholarship:

  • Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident
  • Enrolled full-time or part-time in an undergraduate course at WA School of Mines at Curtin's Kalgoorlie campus
  • A minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 60
  • From a low socio-economic background and/or experiencing financial hardship
  • Not in receipt of any other scholarships
  • Willing to participate in one or more of the following:
    • Provide a testimonial to be used online or published material to promote the scholarship and sponsor reporting
    • Have a photograph taken for inclusion in promotion of the scholarship and sponsor reporting
    • Provide statements to local media if a press release is developed to promote the program
    • Event hosted by the University Advancement
    • Provide statements to local media if a press release is developed to promote the program
