We strive to achieve the highest standards by stimulating and challenging the children. We have high expectations of every child and they work hard to show their best. We believe Shaw Hill Primary School is at the heart of our community. We have positive relationships with the children and their families, which enables us to create a friendly, safe and supportive environment for all to achieve and enjoy.
We have a caring and hard-working staff team who bring out the best in our children. We are focused on developing the knowledge, skills and understanding which will enable the children to be happy, successful citizens and be prepared for life in modern Britain.” Shaw Hill Primary School strives to create a safe environment where children are able to achieve their full potential in all aspects of their learning. We will achieve this by creating a learning environment which is stimulating, challenging, inclusive and enjoyable. Shaw Hill aims to promote self esteem, confidence, respect to self and others and care for the community.
Our curriculum is designed to develop cultural appreciation, including many aspects of British heritage such as our art and music, as well as taking into account the cultural heritage of our pupils’ families. We are keen to provide opportunities for our pupils to have experiences outside of the classroom and have built these into the curriculum, such as visits to the local church, RAF Cosford and trips into Birmingham City Centre to visit
the Art Gallery and museum amongst others.
At Shaw Hill we strongly promote an anti-discrimination message, both through our curriculum and through additional activities such as assemblies, enrichment activities and celebrations throughout the year. Our activities reflect the schools inclusive ethos; fundamental British values are regularly discussed and promoted, in particular the need for tolerance and respect for all regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender (including transgender), religion and belief and sexual identity. We are currently exploring how to develop our provision to further our pupils understanding of their role in sharing this message within the school and the local community. Our pupils will further extend their understanding of why tolerance and respect are so essential and will have the opportunity to reflect on their own behaviors and attitudes towards others.Lessons have been designed to promote discussion about how we might be different from each other; how families are diverse; how stereotypes can be constructed and interpreted; how we develop our own sense of identity and how bullying relating to race, age, religion, gender, ethnicity, disability or sexual orientation is dealt with in school and in the UK as a whole.
