Sherborne Senior School relocates to a new state-of-the-art building

Sherborne Senior School has relocated to a new state-of-the-art building by the Mall of Qatar. The modern and spacious new building is built to the highest of standards and is designed to deliver outstanding, 21st-century education, with small class sizes and age-appropriate facilities.

The new site boasts 74 classrooms; 12 science labs; ICT and robotics suites; specialist drama, art, and music facilities; a 250-seat theatre; a large cafeteria; and, multiple sporting areas, including a 100m running track, two sports halls, a large multi-purpose pitch, and a 25m swimming pool.

The site also has multiple, and very attractive, shaded outside recreational areas for students to enjoy at break times, along with separate safe areas for physical activities.

With a ratio of 8.2 students to every teacher, Sherborne Senior School’s holistic approach ensures that our students’ well-being and academic excellence are equally important. We want to meet the ‘whole’ needs of every child in the school within a stimulating educational environment which nurtures their skills, ambitions, and moral and cultural development.

Our dedicated, highly qualified, British-trained teachers deliver an impressive range of options at I/GCSE, AS Level and A Level. Another key area of the school is the Sixth Form Centre, designed to help Year 12 and 13 students prepare for top universities and enjoy independent learning. The Sixth Form Centre has a very large common room, a large private study area, and six break-out study areas.

Under normal circumstances, more than 60 enrichment activities are on offer every day. The extensive range of opportunities includes the International (Duke of Edinburgh) Award, sports clubs, debating, MUN (Model United Nations), Medical Club, sailing, riding, music, drama and art.

The past 18 months have been challenging for schools worldwide but Sherborne Senior School responded strongly and, without interruption, throughout the period of blended learning all 1000+ weekly lessons continue to be live, interactive and recorded. Sherborne Senior School’s main priority has been to provide the highest quality teaching and learning despite the COVID-19 restrictions. Whether at home or in school, students continue to benefit from 5 hours of live academic instruction each day. There is also daily provision for pastoral needs and well-being support.

Sherborne Senior School’s successful approach to the pandemic has been recognized by our parents and comments of praise such as this are typical: “I was very happy with the school before COVID, but I think the way school has handled everything has been fantastic, the fact the children have live lessons everyday keeps them motivated and involved with their teachers and friends.”

The school is one of the highest performing schools in the Middle East and this year the school community celebrated some amazing examination results:

  • 49 percent of all I/GCSE grades were the top 9 to 7 grades and for 47 percent of students, at least half of their grades were a grade 7, 8 or 9.
  • 34 percent of all AS Level grades were a grade A and 56 percent of students achieved at least one grade A in their AS Levels.
  • 20 percent of students did exceptionally well achieving an A* or an A in all their A Level and almost half of the students (49 percent) achieved at least one grade A or A* in their A Levels.

These results are a testament to our student’s commitment to learning and to the excellent teaching that they receive throughout their time at Sherborne Senior School.

Sherborne Senior School has much in common with Sherborne, our historic and prestigious home school in England, established 500 years ago. Both are dedicated to providing the very best that British independent education can offer.

The Senior School is a co-ed secondary school for 11 to 18 year olds and it is part of Sherborne Qatar’s ‘family of schools’ with shared values offering real choice, along with a co-ed Prep School for 4 to 11 year olds in Al Rayyan and a Girls’ School near Doha Festival City, currently for 4 to 15 year olds.
