The Shrubbery School was founded in 1930 and over 90 years later our most important legacy continues to be the many happy children who have discovered a love for learning as part of our family. Within our School we pride ourselves on allowing each child to flourish. We firmly believe that every single child has the ability to succeed and our sole purpose is to furnish our children with the tools they need to do so.
We believe children learn best when they feel happy at school, the well-being of our pupils is of paramount importance. Small class sizes and a family environment mean our pupils are nurtured and feel confident in everything they do.
Our education incorporates values, ethics, emotional maturity and a sense of responsibility so our pupils have the confidence to take their place in life. We have one aim, to give each pupil an education which enables them to flourish. We aim to develop a love of learning within our pupils, for them to be curious and ambitious so that they leave us confident and excited about the future.
At The Shrubbery School we take our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain very seriously. The school strives to provide opportunities such as sporting events, assemblies, trips, speaker visits and diverse celebrations to strengthen their understanding of these fundamental British Values. Our Nursery and Reception classes offer a wonderful start to life at The Shrubbery, helping our pupil's develop a love of learning, a desire to explore and a sense of belonging. We deliver a carefully structured Early Years Curriculum: Communication and Language, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Physical Development.
Reading is prioritised from the outset and pupil's are taught to read using a number of different strategies including phonics. Pupils are encouraged to write with purpose and given a range of opportunities allowing them to speak with confidence and fluency. The Shrubbery School follows the National Curriculum in English and Mathematics and uses a creative curriculum to inspire youngsters to learn. Subjects taught in school include:
