For more than a century, parents have chosen St. Christopher's because we know boys. As a global leader in understanding, engaging and teaching boys effectively, we have found that boys learn best from active, hands-on experiences. We love boys for who they are, and we are committed to bringing out the best in each of our students -- academically, artistically and spiritually.

St. Christopher’s School knows, loves, and celebrates boys, promotes their pursuit of excellence, and prepares them for lives of honor and integrity, service, and leadership.

In 1911, the Reverend Dr. Churchill Gibson Chamberlayne founded the Chamberlayne School for Boys in the 3300 block of Grove Avenue. In 1914, the school moved to its present location, and in 1920 changed its name to St. Christopher’s School after its purchase by the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia.

St. Christopher’s School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys’ schools in the Mid-Atlantic region. Serving nearly 1,000 boys in grades JK-12 in Richmond, Virginia, the School seeks to prepare a talented and diverse group of boys for college and for life in an ever-changing world. A rigorous academic program, small classes, dedicated and nurturing teachers who are experts in how boys learn, a vibrant program in athletics and the arts, and a commitment to leadership and personal responsibility are hallmarks of a St. Christopher’s education. Our Episcopal foundation is at the center of what we do, and we care most about developing young men who possess honor and integrity.

  • Lower School focuses on laying the foundation. We strive for boys to be actively engaged and to use information in real and meaningful ways. In this division, in particular, physical activity and movement enhance all learning.
  • The Middle School years are an intense time for human growth and development (comparable to birth through age three). It’s a challenging, critical period when students build on the foundation while establishing independence, connecting with peers through common interests, and exploring and building on their strengths
  • Academic rigor intensifies in Upper School while sports, the arts and extracurricular activities broaden. Our coordinate program with St. Catherine’s School provides diversification of programming and boys and girls come together as intellectual peers in many co-ed classes. Interactions increase with age as students progress and mature.

My child attends St. Christopher's School in Virginia and we couldn't be happier with the quality of education they receive. The American curriculum offered at the school is top-notch and has helped my child excel in their studies. The staff at the school are incredibly helpful and supportive, always going above and beyond for their students. We have seen tremendous progress in our child's academic and personal growth. Thank you, St. Christopher's School!
