St Margaret's and Berwick Grammar is a school that educates children so that they can strive to be their best selves, now and in the future, for the betterment of all humanity and the planet. We action this through our values - Courage to do the right thing, Curiosity to know and learn, Character to be one's true self and Respect to live wisely and compassionately with others and the planet. The School’s programs and teaching are consistent with the principles of Australian democracy.

As a non-selective and non-denominational school, St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School exists to bring out the best of every child who attends our school, preparing them for life as a good global citizen.

Our Schools Strategic Plan has been starting with our school’s values of Courage, Curiosity, Character and Respect which were developed through engagement with key stakeholder groups (students, parents, staff, alumni and our School Council) and sit at the heart of our education community, guiding every aspect of our learning and decision making.

The strategic plan for our school has been developed starting from our values and their strategic intent through to their desired outcomes, from this tactical activities are developed.

This approach of having connected tactical activities for each of our values and our strategic plan, means that we are regularly able to track and review progress and pivot if required, to respond the rapidly changing external environments.

Our framework ensures that we live and breathe our values and deliver strategic outcomes that are linked to our mission and vision for our students, who are at the centre of everything we do.

St Margaret's School was established in 1926, with 18 pupils, in the manse of the Toorak Presbyterian Church. In 1927 St Margaret's School moved to Mayfield Avenue, Malvern, and in 1931 leased the former Governor's residence, Stonington. By the 1930s St Margaret's School had grown to 330 pupils.
