St Mellons Church in Wales Primary is a small and caring school underpinned by our Christian values. We know and consider the needs of each child and support them to be the very best they can be. Our school is a strong Christian family with close links to the parish of Old St Mellons. We strive for excellence in everything we do. Parents, carers, grandparents and friends are a key part of our success.

We provide a supportive environment where children are nurtured and encouraged to develop a wide range of skills. The Foundation Phase is about enhancing the learning experiences which enable children to be creative, imaginative and to have fun whilst learning. Children are given many opportunities to explore the world around them. They begin to understand how things work through engaging in relevant practical activities which are fun and enjoyable. The Foundation Phase places great emphasis on experiential learning, active involvement and developing each child’s:

• Positive attitudes to learning
• Self-esteem and self-confidence to experiment, investigate, learn new things and form new relationships
• Creative, expressive and observational skills
• Activities in the outdoors where they have first-hand experience of solving real-life problems and learn about caring for the environment.
