In St. Ninian’s Primary our motto is “Aspiring to greatness, inspired to learn.” All members of staff are dedicated to providing an ethos of motivation, inspiration and achievement. We aim to create a positive, caring, learning environment, nurture respect and responsibility and encourage everyone to be the best they can be. We have high expectations not only with regard to pupil learning but also regarding behaviour and respect for one another. We believe in equality of opportunity, promoting a caring community, sharing experience, an attitude of respect and achievement for all.

In St. Ninian’s we ensure that all children achieve their potential in every area of a broad curriculum and leave primary school with those necessary skills to transfer and use in their secondary education. The Scottish Government has provided additional funding over the last few years in the form of “Pupil Equity Funding” to support pupil attainment and the impact of this in staff development and teaching and learning is evident in pupils’ attainment. We will continue to focus on literacy and numeracy this session to ensure all needs are being met and pupils are progressing successfully in their learning.

Children learn to be independent and responsible whilst promoting the necessary skills to work collaboratively and respect each others’ views and opinions. Pupils are encouraged to be courteous, mannerly and responsible in their actions and interaction with others.

It is our belief that the school is an integral part of the community. By creating a very welcoming environment, working in partnership with parents, carers, the Parish and the wider community, we will together, achieve successful outcomes. Furthermore, as a catholic school, we promote the gospel values and demonstrate our faith through our ethos, prayer and attitudes. This contributes to the very positive and strong faith community we enjoy at St Ninian’s.

Our aim is to work in partnership with you and provide a safe and stimulating environment, which will enable your child to access the best possible education. We will work hard to ensure that high standards are maintained and we can be proud of our achievement.

We aim to work in partnership with you to enable our children to become successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens. Our pupils contribute to the management of the school through our Pupil Council.

Mission

All stakeholders were audited on developing our Vision, Values and Aims at the beginning of 2011. The Parent Council were consulted along with Pupils Staff and Our Priests. We then consulted all our parents through a questionnaire and through discussions at Parents’ Evening in May. This was also readily accepted by all stakeholders.

Vision

In St Ninian’s as a community of faith and learning we will value each young person as an individual thus enabling our children to fulfil their true potential in order to develop as fully formed individuals ready and prepared to meet the challenges of life and committed to serving Christ in others.

Values

The whole community of St Ninian’s School will collaborate in order to promote success and achievement for all our children through high expectations and aspirations for all. We promote a climate of respect, equality and inclusion recognising the rich diversity of lifestyles and cultures of our pupils and their families. Through cooperation and partnership with other agencies and services we aim to improve the life chances and outcomes for all our children and in particular address the needs of our most vulnerable children.

Young people are expected to attain the levels at the appropriate stages as set out above. Some children will start learning at these levels earlier and others later, depending upon individual needs and aptitudes. We regularly track children’s attainment and our attainment figures are impressive and a continuously improving.

There is personal support to help young people fulfil their potential and make the most of their opportunities with additional support wherever that’s needed. There will be a new emphasis by all staff on looking after our children’s health and wellbeing – to ensure that the school is a place where children feel safe and secure.

Ultimately, Curriculum for Excellence’s aim is to improve our children’s life chances, to nurture successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors, and responsible citizens, building on Scotland’s reputation for providing excellent education.
