St. Paul's School is a kindergarten through twelfth grade college-preparatory day school in Brooklandville, Maryland, conveniently located on Falls Road off I-695. We are coeducational in the Lower School (grades kindergarten to four) and all-boys in the Middle and Upper Schools (grades five to twelve). St. Paul’s shares a campus with St. Paul’s Plus Co-ed Preschool and St. Paul’s School for Girls, grades 5-12.

Much has changed in the world and in education since St. Paul’s was founded in 1849. St. Paul’s has changed as well. Nevertheless, there are two key constants - our Episcopal roots and a belief that learning is based upon and best achieved through strong and deep connections between teacher and student.

Today, St. Paul’s is located on a beautiful and spacious campus. Our facilities are outstanding, providing for all of the needs for our academic, arts, and athletic programs. We have an exceptional faculty and staff, a diverse and talented student body, and a school community noted for its uncommonly strong bonds. We are most fortunate.

We also are unique - co-ed in the Lower School and all-boys in the Middle and Upper Schools. We offer the rigorous International Baccalaureate Program in the Upper School and further enhance curriculum offerings through a coordinated program with St. Paul’s School for Girls. No other school in Baltimore offers the programs and opportunities St. Paul’s does.

Our School’s philosophical beliefs are rooted in our historic relationship with Old St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and its Anglican traditions. These roots help us define the institutional and educational practices that support our goal of helping each member of our community achieve individual excellence.

  • We believe every member of the community is essential to our School. We are all learners who strive to deepen our knowledge and to share what we have learned with others. We extend ourselves to encourage and support each other in the pursuit of the goals set forth in the School’s mission.
  • We believe the goals of education are to sharpen the mind, ennoble the spirit, and challenge the body. We inspire and educate so that students can achieve their best in academic, artistic, athletic, and extracurricular endeavors. We teach students to question, consider, test, evaluate, and then question again, as we lead them to confront the moral and intellectual challenges of the modern world and embrace lives of learning.
  • We believe it is our community's responsibility to stress strength of character in all areas of school life. We expect all members of the community to respect others, be responsible, treasure integrity, and to live with honor.
  • We believe in the importance of spiritual growth. We provide opportunities for the community to come together for worship and for individuals to pursue their personal faith journeys.
  • We believe in inclusiveness. We support diversity as an integral aspect of educational excellence that enriches the experiences of all. We respect diversity in race, religion, ethnicity, socio-economic circumstances, sexual orientation and gender.
  • We believe in serving others. We strive to create a better and more peaceful world through lives of service and compassion.

Student Services available at St. Paul’s include a variety of academic and social / emotional resources. Consistent with the St. Paul’s mission to provide opportunities for all students to achieve their own personal excellence, the goal of Student Services across the Lower, Middle, and Upper schools is to help each child know their strengths and to make the best of their individual abilities. Each school has an experienced Student Support Team, composed of the Head of the School and other qualified faculty, who oversee the unique academic and social learning needs of students in each division. Together, the team partners with the student, his or her parents, and faculty to assess a student’s needs and provide appropriate resources to maximize the student’s potential and success. Serving as our school psychologist, a doctoral level clinician oversees the Student Service Team in each of the schools to provide continuity for students and families as they transition from Lower, to Middle, to Upper School. The psychologist is available to speak with students, teachers, and families at any time.

College Counseling at St. Paul's supports students and families throughout the college search and selection process. Through individual advising, group meetings, and programmatic events, our college counselors work hard to match each student's abilities, strengths, personal preferences, and career aspirations to the best possible college or university. St. Paul's college counselors continue to develop their knowledge about individual colleges and issues affecting college admission through college visits, membership in professional associations, and participation at regional and national conferences. At St. Paul’s, the college selection process is not a 'trophy hunt.' It's an exciting, fun, character-building experience. We help our students make creative, honorable choices--the choices that are best for them.
