Welcome to St Thomas the Apostle we are an 11-18 boys Catholic school with a co-educational sixth form. We are currently ranked (according to the Department for Education performance tables) as the 11th highest performing school in the country in terms of the progress our students make (+0.91 progress 8).

Achievements such as these are born out of a culture of hard work and success. Our most recent Ofsted inspection (November 2014) has categorised our school as “outstanding” in all categories. The boys take tremendous pride in their school community and their learning. One student told the Ofsted Inspectors: “we enter as boys but we leave as young men.”

St Thomas the Apostle is a school where success is achieved within a nurturing Christian community. This is reflected in our motto “Achieving Excellence with Care”. The school provides structure, support, celebrates success and recognises the unique talents of young people as individuals. Students in our school receive the very highest quality education, personalised to meet their individual needs, strengths and interests, so that they leave with the foundations for a successful life.

We insist on the highest standards of behaviour, uniform, attitude to learning and respect for one another and the environment. By providing a traditional, yet broad and balanced curriculum for all our students, we are able to recognise and develop individual talents and interests.

Building on our growing reputation for excellence, we opened our new Sixth Form in September 2015. Our students benefit from the close links with the best universities in the country and a high proportion leave us to attend Russell Group universities.

St Thomas the Apostle College strives to provide an outstanding level of education for all its pupils within an environment of strong Catholic traditions.

We value all members of our College community and encourage all staff and students to bear witness to the Catholic faith in their work and relationships. The College aims to provide a happy, caring and successful learning environment for all our students where their true potential can be realised.

Within our school there is an atmosphere of mutual respect where good manners and exemplary behaviour are expected. In order to succeed we know how important high expectations are, we believe, encourage and support all pupils to succeed, whatever their individual circumstances.

Our students all receive an academic curriculum which is broad and balanced. The spread and the depth of the curriculum has been carefully thought through and facilitates our students to receive the very best outcomes in their GCSEs, A Levels and beyond. We also run an extensive and diverse extra curricular programme which appeals to the students competitive, creative and performance skills.

The broad and balanced curriculum we have put in place ensures that all boys are prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. We encourage all boys to develop enquiring minds and equip them with the skills necessary to become autonomous learners. By taking responsibility for their learning our students will leave St Thomas the Apostle College fully equipped to cope with the demands of a complex, fast changing society.

The 6th Form at St Thomas the Apostle College combines high expectations of academic performance, a commitment to personal development and increased independence and responsibility for our students as they prepare for Higher Education and successful careers.

The academic curriculum is supplemented by an extensive enrichment programme on Wednesday afternoons, work experience placements in the summer term and a comprehensive programme of events to prepare students for Higher Education, prestigious apprenticeships and future careers.

The 6th Form Centre offers a wide range of A Level courses, as well as a selection of vocational BTEC courses. Interest from boys and girls who are currently in Year 11 here and at other schools is welcomed; prospective students will find our 6th Form to be professional, stimulating, challenging and rigorous in equal measure and we look forward to working with ambitious students as we build an outstanding 6th form provision to our outstanding school.

St Thomas The Apostle College has been serving the community of Peckham since 1965. Since that time it has been an integral part of the local community. In the 1960s the Catholic community in Southwark was growing, so a new school was badly needed in order to provide a quality Catholic education to young Catholic men.

Our school now reflects the multi-faith community in which we live. We have members of our community from a wide variety of faith positions, and we ensure that each is valued equally, in accordance with our Catholic Christian faith. As Catholics we believe that the first of all Human Rights is the right for the individually to freely choose and practice their religion, because it is this choice that relates closest to God.

Just stop being unfair and give the students behaviour points for no reason

This school is a very good school academically. If you want to get 7, 8 or even 9 in your GCSEs, this is the school for you. The uniform and PE kit are decent and the building is new. Good science labs, tidy library, this school is just the best.

St. Thomas the Apostle College (STAC) is an 11-16 Catholic comprehensive school for boys, with Specialist status in Maths and ICT. The College has been totally re-built under BSF and boasts new state-of-the-art facilities and including a brand new sports hall, fully serviced science laboratories, new art, graphics, food technology suites and a recording studio. New ICT facilities have also been integrated throughout the new building to enable modern teaching and learning. STAC has enormous potential, especially since forming a soft federation with the ‘outstanding’ Sacred Heart RC Secondary School nearby as well as the recent appointment of a Head of School - all makes for a strong platform from which to drive rapid and sustainable progress. And with further plans to launch a Sixth Form in due course, there are many challenging yet wonderful opportunities ahead for the school.
