Suzhou Singapore International School

Founded in 1996, Suzhou Singapore International School (SSIS) is the first, oldest and most experienced International School in Suzhou-China, fully authorized IB World School.

As parents, when looking for the right school for our children, we consider many factors; academic programs, accreditation, reputa- tion, exam results, extra-curricular activities program; all of which are very important factors that are offered by most international and private schools around the globe, however it is that moment when a family contacts our school or steps through our doors for the very first time that they can truly see the environment of trust, see the smiles on the children’s faces, hear the sounds, watch the interactions and feel the happiness and welcome that sets SSIS apart from everyone else.

Learning is a continuous, transformative, and reflective process, where learners engage with the world and connect meaning to understanding.  At SSIS, purposeful and meaningful learning takes place in an inclusive and safe environment with competence, compassion, and a range of individual and collaborative experiences. Students learn how to learn and are appropriately challenged to think critically and creatively, use their voice with confidence, take action, and embrace opportunities for growth. We Encourage and enable students to be self-motivated, lifelong learners, who value other cultures and are responsible, meaningful participants in the international community.

Staying true to our mission of providing an excellent international education, our school fully supports access to the IB Diploma Programme for all of our students. We do not hand pick a cohort of our best and brightest. We do not need to. All of our students are gifted in their own unique ways. And because of our passion to provide an individualized education to each one of our graduates we have seen some amazing DP results over the past years. Our students have consistently averaged 35 or more in the IB Diploma Programme for the most recent years, which is significantly above the world average.

At SSIS we believe that each child enters our school already possessing a wide range of knowledge, skills, attitudes and understandings about the world and their place within it. It is our aim to celebrate and build on each child’s strengths, identify areas for growth and development, and work in partnership with parents to create a learning environment where all children will feel safe, supported, and successful. When children join our school, they are placed in the appropriate grade level according to their age.

We believe in a balanced and differentiated learning programme. Student learning is supported by specialists in the areas of Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music, Drama and Dance, and Library/Media Studies. In addition, all of our students learn Chinese daily, according to their level of need. Students also have access to English Additional Language teachers and Learning Support teachers who work directly with them and with their teachers to ensure the most effective and appropriate level of planning and support.
