Towerbank Primary School

Towerbank is a large non-denominational, three/four stream primary school located very close to Portobello Beach. Our school serves the community of Portobello on the outskirts of Edinburgh. We are so proud to be the only beach school in Edinburgh!

The school buildings are both traditional and modern. The original building is Victorian and dates back to 1884 and our eight class extension and a purpose built nursery was opened in August 2013. The current roll is 621 pupils in the main school and in the nursery. We have 21 classes in the main school with 2 nursery classes. We have an Afterschool Club and Breakfast Club.

Towerbank is an integral part of the community both educationally and socially. Strong links continue to be developed with many community organisations and regular opportunities exist to work in partnership. We also work very closely with our Parents and Carers and are always looking for ways to include the whole school community in the life of Towerbank.

We are very proud our strong culture of inclusion in Towerbank and the thoughts and opinions of the pupils at Towerbank are strongly encouraged through our Pupil Parliament. The safety and security of pupils and staff when attending or working in a school is very important to us. Schools use a number of security measures including visitors’ books, badges and escorts, while visitors are within the school building.

Normally, anyone calling at a school for any reason will be asked to report to the school office. The school staff then can make the necessary arrangements for the visit. We would respectfully ask that parents do not attempt to enter schools through another entrance, unless supervised by a member of staff. If you wish to speak to a member of staff then please come to the school office where we shall be happy to arrange this for you.
