As one of eight Grammar Schools in Queensland, Townsville Grammar School has been delivering outstanding academic outcomes and maintaining a commitment to educational leadership in North Queensland for more than 130 years.

The School motto, Bonus Intra Melior Exi - come in good and go out better - is the guiding philosophy in our approach to the academic, sporting, cultural and character development of all young Grammarians.

Since its establishment in 1888, Townsville Grammar School has grown with the community, delivering an exceptional education in a values-based environment. The School has expanded in line with the city’s growth, now offering Early Education (Pre-Prep) to Year 12 across three campuses at North Ward, Annandale and North Shore.

Through the Past Grammarians Association, the School is proud to maintain strong connections with alumni, in line with maintaining our respect for and connection with our history and heritage. Townsville Grammar School is the oldest secondary school in North Queensland, opening its doors on Monday, 16 April 1888 at the North Ward site.

The School has earned an enduring reputation for educational leadership in the North, and has served and supported generations of families through day schooling and boarding. The School's alumni includes Rhodes Scholars and many prominent persons in government, law, defence, medicine, education, the arts, sport and industry. Townsville Grammar School also has a proud connection with the Australian Defence Forces, honouring the sixty Past Grammarians who lost their lives in service during the School's annual ANZAC Service.

With a proud 130+ year history, the School has expanded in line with Townsville's growing community. Today, Townsville Grammar School has a student population of 1250 across three Campuses.
