UAE: Festive week begins in Indian schools as some students prepare for CBSE exams

As Indian-curriculum schools across the UAE enter their final week before the winter break, the corridors are filled with festive cheer and focused determination. While younger children gear up for field trips, winter parties and end-of-term celebrations, Grade 10 and 12 students are already preparing for board examinations beginning early next year.

Notably, the board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 are set to commence on February 17. Class 10 students will finish their papers on March 10, while Class 12 exams will wrap up on April 9.

With over 100 CBSE-affiliated schools in the UAE, principals highlighted that the coming days are a balanced blend of rest, reflection, revision, and a nudge to keep academic momentum alive.

Community spirit and pre-board discipline

Fatima Martin, Principal of New Millennium School, said the days leading up to the break are meant to be meaningful rather than just a wind-down.

“This final stretch is not just a countdown to the holidays; it is a crafted convergence of community moments and seasonal celebrations. One of our annual events is the Al Farah Wal Shukr, where senior students organise a potluck lunch for all our support staff. This initiative aims to bring an attitude of gratitude among the school community.

“The winter weather adds to the spirit, as outdoor sports and field trips flourish, giving students a refreshing breather before the break. Younger students are bubbling with excitement, while our board students are beginning to slip into a steady study rhythm.”

She emphasised that because board exams are so close, schools help students structure their break intentionally.

“Because the holiday arrives so close to the board examinations, we treat this period like a well-choreographed juggle – rest in one hand, revision in the other. Our teachers help students design a strategic, sensible study plan so they can enjoy their time off without losing academic momentum. We call it the FOMO approach – Focus On Maximising Opportunities.

“Students are encouraged to rejuvenate yet stay in the zone, as benchmarking assessments, internal exams, and board preparations await them early in the new year.

“Teachers have curated a meaningful break plan to ensure continuity of learning. It’s a blend of joy and purpose – the perfect prologue to a productive January.”

‘Blend of celebration, reflection, and preparation’

Deepika Thapar Singh, CEO-Principal of Credence High School, said the atmosphere is both festive and academically purposeful.

“There is a warm, joyful excitement in the air as we enter the last week before the holidays. For our Grade 10 and 12 students, the first Pre-Boards are now behind them; answer sheets have been returned, teachers are sitting with students to review every detail, and we are preparing for the upcoming PTM so that parents remain fully informed and reassured.
Over the past few weeks, the school has also held several sessions with its board students on how to approach the examinations calmly and confidently.

“They now understand that a simple, regular study routine is their best path to success. Meanwhile, the rest of the school is buzzing as children head out on field trips across the UAE, enjoying themselves while learning through real experiences.

“The atmosphere is a blend of celebration, reflection, and purposeful preparation. As always, we will continue to guide and support our children and their parents, ensuring that every child feels confident, cared for, and ready for the journey ahead.”

Festive excitement and focused preparation

At Woodlem Park School in Ajman, the week is also filled with various activities.

Shiny Davison, Principal, pointed out that the term will end on a festive note while ensuring students, especially board candidates, do not lose sight of upcoming academic milestones.

“As we enter the last week before the holidays, the campus reflects both festive excitement and focused preparation. We will conclude the term with a winter party. Younger students are eagerly embracing the season, while board students are receiving guidance on balancing revision with rejuvenation.

We have also planned holiday project work, as the new term will open with major events like Globex, centred on sustainability and the Year of the Family.

As we step into the New Year, we have also requested our students and families to make resolutions together for the New Year.”
