The university research institutes, the creation, modification and dissolution is agreed upon by the Autonomous Community. The institutes’ missions are focused on scientific and technical research or artistic creation.The University may create teaching centers for the purpose of carrying out activities of scientific, technical, artistic or service-providing activities, as well as teaching and research support units

The Faculty Senate is the supreme academic representative body of the University Community. As such, it is a governing body that is responsible for supervising and controlling the University’s management, as well as for establishing the general outlines of the University’s policies related to the different aspects of the University life.The Statutes of the Rey Juan Carlos University in Article 161 states that the University Ombudsman is the body which defends and guarantees the rights and liberties of all members of the university community (students, administration and services, and teachers), for which purpose he may supervise the activity of the University bodies, whether collegiate or one- person bodies of the University.
