While being a relatively young university established in 1989, the University of Cyprus has established itself locally and internationally as an academic institution providing high quality programs of study, producing high-level research and making significant contributions to the development of our society.
Through the 8 faculties and 22 departments which operate at the UCY, the university offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD and research programs which cater to almost 7000 students. In addition to its faculties and departments, the UCY boasts a significant number of research units and centers which operate within the university. Their focus is to carry out important research and innovative activities which carry a broad social impact. The University of Cyprus consists of approximately 900 members of academic and administrative staff who each engage with and contribute to the overall aim of providing students with a unique and prosperous UCY experience.
The UCY is globally networked and has substantial participation in international research activity. It actively contributes to European and international scientific developments, while many of the institution’s academics have earned international recognition for their teaching, research and scientific achievements.

Admission for the majority of undergraduate students is by entrance examinations organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, and the competition for places is intense. A number of places are reserved for students with special needs or circumstances. Every effort is made to offer practical solutions to students facing specific problems, be it access to University facilities, or assistance on academic issues.
