Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Malaysia's eighth university was officially incorporated on 24 December 1992. A university that is contemporary in character and forward-looking in outlook, it is committed in providing the nation with leaders, managers, scientists and technical specialists as well as thoughtful citizens who are capable of handling the complex challenges of our common future - confidently, competently, and creatively.
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) is situated at the heart of Borneo. The campus is 40-minute's drive from the City of Kuching, the capital and the most populous city in the state of Sarawak in Malaysia. UNIMAS recognises that learning should be provided in a system capable of continuously assimilating, using and transfering new methods, knowledge and skills -- the students should see themselves as continuous learners and UNIMAS will ensure relevance by prioritising its teaching and learning activities. Undergraduate Studies Division play their parts by assisting the Undergraduate Students in any matters related to Student Intakes, Assessment, Monitoring and Convocation.
UNIMAS Innovation, which was first known as Research and Innovation Management Centre, was established in April 2003. As UNIMAS grew in size and stature, the need to strengthen research and grants within UNIMAS gave birth to the Research and Innovation Management Centre (RIMC) on 10 January 2005. The rapid growth of UNIMAS and the importance of research and innovation for our university led to the change in RIMC’s name to UNIMAS Innovation on 1st January 2015.
The knowledge discovery initiatives at UNIMAs are premised partly upon the wealth of natural resources and diverse socio-cultural make-up of the state of Sarawak. While UNIMAS is strong in biodiversity study, this and most of other research activities are firmly based on contemporary technologies. The cultural diversity and social uniqueness of Sarawak communities offer opportunities for studies in health and medicine, by offering a look at the influence of environmental factors and socio-cultural practices on the interactions of various pathogens, as well as other issues related to community health.
As part of UNIMAS effort to give back to their local communities, UNIMAS Engage was chosen to lead this project. The focus is mainly on helping the local communities in their daily life activities which applies some of UNIMAS research projects and best-practices from education perpectives. UNIMAS also partners with NGOs and other peers to make it successful.
