University Malaysia Terengganu began as Universiti Pertanian Malaysia's Centre for Fisheries and Marine Science, located at Mengabang Telipot, Kuala Terengganu. It provided facilities for both students and lecturers from the Fisheries and Marine Science programmes to conduct their practical sessions and also researches.
Eventually, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science of Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM) in Serdang was transferred to Kuala Terengganu, and the Centre transformed into a branch campus, being renamed University Pertanian Malaysia Terengganu (UPMT).The name of the faculty was also changed to the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology. Also formed were the Faculty of Science and Professional Literature and the Matriculation Centre.

the best university for ocean studies, since that is the main focus of UMT. fun learning atmosphere, many facilities for students. UMT also has its own beach, if you are stressed you can calm down near the beach behind the campus. if anyone reads this & still hesitates to enter here. stop doubting & enter now! you won't regret it …

This university is focus on marine and biological diversity. The South China Sea marine ecosystem is just 5 minutes walk away, the Setiu Wetlands is just 30 minutes drive, the tropical rain forest is 45 minutes away and the Bidong island is just 30 minutes by speedboat. So many exciting things for energetic people who love the outdoors, sea, wildlife and flora.
