University of Ruhuna is one of the leading Universities in Sri Lanka with a vision of being the prime intellectual thrust of the nation. It is committed to provide the advanced knowledge and skills through teaching, research and services to serve the society and the mankind. The infrastructure development has been massive during the last decade. It has created an excellent teaching and learning environment. The Rabindranath Tagore performance center is the second largest hall in the country for the development of visual and performing arts area of the undergraduates. No other University in the country has anything similar to it.

The Library of University of Ruhuna being a central research library in the southern region of Sri Lanka caters for vast variety of communities in the country. The Ruhuna University Library has five branch libraries in addition to the Main Library viz: Agricultural Library at Mapalana, Allied Health Sciences Library at Mahamodara, Engineering library at Hapugala, Medical Library at Karapitiya and Technology library at Kamburupitiya. The resource collection consists of more than two hundred thousand books and 200 titles of periodicals related to courses and staff requirements of the university.

Our graduates excel in their positions in government and private-sector organizations due to dedicated academic staff, excellent facilities and approach to teaching and learning. Students at FAUR benefit from our academic staff’s involvement and expertise in teaching, research and outreach activities. We help our students to go beyond the boundaries of the classroom by providing many opportunities for laboratory and field training asFAUR engages students in innovative, practical and integrated learning. We want our graduates to leave the campus with essential life skills and hands-on experience that will help them succeed. Mastering academic challenges is only part of a successful university experience. Developing interpersonal, leadership and social skills are also essential. The primary aim of the Faculty is producing engineers of the highest quality who, with experience, should be able to hold responsible positions at the highest levels of the profession, possessing the wisdom to recognise their own limitations in the face of new developments and the necessary skills to benefit from continuing professional development.

Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology offers numerous services to students and act as a source of information for other interested parties. The Dean’s office handles student registration, student recruitment and transfer & deals with legal aspects and coordinates all the departments in order of smooth continuation of Faculty’s duties. The web addition of the Dean's office is designed to minimize workload traffic while downloading forms and applications, viewing examination results and obtaining academic schedules, time tables and lecture notes etc.

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences grooms the students for a professional and disciplined life by providing them with a broad understanding of the traditions that operate in a wide range of humanistic and social science disciplines; by achieving in them an ability to apply the subject knowledge they gather in class and field to solving problems and carrying out tasks in the contemporary world; and by improving their capacity for independent and critical thinking, logical analysis, effective communication, and well-informed participation in teamwork. Hence, the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Arts Honors degree programmes constitutes classroom work, field activities, and independent readings and writings with hands-on research, and project work.
