The University of Surabaya (Ubaya)’s history began with the desire of the founders to produce graduates who can contribute to the development of the city of Surabaya. Over time, reality proves that Ubaya presence has reached East Java, national, and even international level. The achievement was not by chance but accomplishedby sincere efforts through a series of strategic planning even through the leaps of works to be dedicated to the community.

In 2018, Ubaya fulfilled its 50 years of presence in higher education. Since its establishment, the university has been committed to giving priority to quality, character, and high integrity in the education process. In this golden age, Ubaya invites all of Ubaya's big family and fellow comrades who are directly or indirectly involved in education to be grateful for the consistency of Ubaya's involvement in educating the dynamic young generation. Ubaya remains consistent in instilling important values ​​of the life of the nation, society, and work in addition to strengthening the science and technology.

To date, Ubaya remains renowned as a national university. The cultivation of awareness to unite in the diversity that upholds the equality of mankind is instilled in every Ubaya’s educational process. This is particularly evident in the recruitment of students, lecturers, and non-lecturers that are not limited by ethnicity, race, religion, and economic & social backgrounds. Ubaya welcomes the dynamic young generation who yearns for high-quality education and technological advancement as well as hasthe same idealism, vision, values, ​​and point of view, to jointhe university.

Ubaya vision is an incorporated image that provides a clear pathway for Ubaya to set itself up to be the first university in heart and mind. The vision is a heartfelt explanation to the society as well as a challenge in improving the quality of an effective and efficient learning process. Ubaya Vision is To be the First University in Heart and Mind. Ubaya Mission is a means for Ubaya in gathering awareness and effort. The mission functions in providing a clear direction for conducting the three services of University activities (Tri-Dharma Ubaya).

Ubaya Mission is To advance business and industrial society by developing three services of the Three services of University activities (Tri-Dharma Ubaya) continuingly for the welfare of human being. The aims is to deliver graduates who possess the competence of knowledge, skill and character which are suitable to the need for advancing business and industrial society. to enhance researches as well as application of knowledge and technology in the function of strengthening Ubaya’s position as the best partner for business and industrial society. to facilitate the creation of community who respect values of life (pro life), humanism and democracy that is achieved within a framework of peace and justice. to manage the needed human recourses, financial resources, facilities, and infrastructures. to develop mutual cooperation with domestic and overseas institutions.

A training center with outdoor concept that cultivates the nature and implementation of effective & optimum nature conservation. Ubaya Training Center (UTC) is part of the Integrated Outdoor Campus (IOC) which is widely known as Ubaya campus III. It is located in Village of Tamiajeng, Trawas and stands on the 36-hectare land. UTC offers a new outdoor training concept that promotes the nature as well as implementation of effective & optimum nature conservation.

We care to every need of modern society and through nature, we try to answer and provide solutions as follows: How students do the outing activity or the learning agenda with the real natural atmosphere
How family can relax, enjoy the natural scenery while learning about nature and its ecological system. How retreat and seminar activities could lead to an interesting "Experiential Learning" (Outbound) through certified international standard facilities and equipments as well as reliable certified instructors. How the businessmen who already bored with urban condition can conduct meetings under green, calm, and healthy atmosphere.

Majority of UTC buildings were constructed using natural materials such as natural stone, and “Aliwowos” wood from North Sulawesi that is known as strong and solid material for building construction, as well as resistant to termite attack.

For garden arrangement, UTC promotes a fresh green atmosphere. We flourish a wide variety of plants and flowers to create more alive and fresh environment. UTC is very concerned to the nature, and as an educational institution, we mean to give significant benefits for the development of education in Indonesia. We apply real applications of natural learning through the use of “Ecosan” system (i.e. process of producing fertilizer through human faces and urine) on UTC toilet; solar energy unit module that utilizes sun energy to generate electricity; crop management; home composting; and Toga (Family Medicinal Plant) Collection garden.

Many activities you can do at UTC, ranging from business meeting, family recreation, seminar and retreat, training, camping, outbound and outdoor games such as Flying Fox and Kids High Rope Course, outdoor games, gardening, or learning process about nature. Prominent facilities as well as healthy, natural, and comfortable atmosphere of green mountain.
