Ulm University was founded in 1967. An attractive and seminal course catalogue, high standard of education, internationality, interdisciplinarity and top-level innovative research have become trademarks of Ulm University.

Over 10,000 students receive thorough education and support in 4 faculties. The Faculties of Medicine, Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Economics and Engineering, Computer Sciences and Psychology offer more than 60 study programmes, some of them taught in English. Internationally, Ulm University stands out with its particularly comprehensive support for international students.

Continuing academic education offers qualifications for working professionals. Modularised master’s programmes teach specialised skills as well as management know how, research expertise and leadership skills. Their didactic concept is based on actual results from teaching and learning research.

Ulm University is a green campus university and belongs to a dynamic region with a strong economy. The University is an important driving force behind the Science City of Ulm and partner in numerous cooperations with industry, economy and other institutions on a regional, national and international level.

Ulm University dedicates itself to 12 strategic research topics, most of which are interdisciplinary. Important research fields are the life sciences and medicine, bio-, nano- and energy materials, financial services and their mathematical methods as well as information, communication and quantum technologies.

The Times Higher Education Young University Ranking 2017 rated Ulm University best German university under 50 years and among the top 10 worldwide.

Just under six years later, on 25 February 1967, Kiesinger, who was the Chancellor of Germany by then, joined Founding Rector Prof. Ludwig Heilmeyer together with the new State Premier Dr. Hans Filbinger for the foundation ceremony of the Medizinisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Hochschule Ulm (higher education institution for medicine and natural sciences). On 4 July of the same year, the institution was given the official status of a university. We are fortunate to have numerous renowned companies close by in the Science City. For example, driveU is a cooperation between the Daimler Research Centre and Ulm University focused on research and development of autonomic driving ('driving a car without a driver'). The results of such collaborations frequently enrich our teaching.

Graduates coming from Ulm University are fit for the job market! Interdisciplinary research and practical exercises together with presentations from economy and industry prepare our students for their careers.

The University created its own Cooperation Award to promote outstanding collaborations between students or researchers from Ulm University and partners from the economy.

Studying and researching is well and good. But Albert Einstein's birthplace also has a lot to offer to keep you entertained in your spare time. Ulm is a great place to 'paint the town red' and have a good time. There aren't many cities that offer such an abundance of cafés, pubs and restaurants. Events like the Ulmer Zelt (summer concert & comedy series), Nabada (carnival on the river) or the International Donaufest (food, craftworks & music) will get you on your feet and out and about in this medieval city with its quaint alleys and lush green parks.
