As a state University, Wayamba University has developed a rigorous and robust policy framework under the authority of the University Strategic Management Committee. Policies are approved by the Council on the recommendation of the Senate.

The Wayamba University of Sri Lanka started in 1999 as the 13th university of the country. The library of the university started in the same year as a university library. The Library system of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka consists of three Libraries; one is at Kuliyapitiya and the other two is at Makandura and Labuyaya. They have been started shearing their services in the e-environment since 2005.

University Policy Framework consists of following types of document:

  • Policy – a high-level authoritative statements that set out governing principles and objectives to guide University operations and decision-making. Policies are applicable to the University as a whole and comply with all relevant legislation and rules.
  • Procedures – mandatory statements of the standard and required practice.
  • Provisions – binding statements of principles applicable only within a particular faculty, academic unit or administrative unit.
  • Guidelines – advisory and explanatory statements which offer detail, context or recommendations for good practice.

It identifies with the quality objectives of the university as outlined in university’s quality policy. The library is committed to empower the university to achieve its mission by offering accessible quality training, research and innovation in order to produce leaders in the fields of Agriculture and Plantation Management, Applied Sciences, Business Studies and Finance, Food Technology, Livestock  Fisheries and Nutrition, Medicine  and Technology to suit the needs of a dynamic world by providing speedy and timely access to relevant, current and quality information resources for teaching, learning, research and innovation. In order to deliver quality services that consistently meet and endeavor to exceed the expectations of our users we strive to uphold the core values of the university which focuses on quality, teamwork, accountability, professionalism, integrity, patriotism, dynamism, innovation and transparency.

  • To be a leading higher education institute in Sri Lanka recognized for its outstanding academic programmes, innovative research, scholarship and outreach with the ultimate target of serving the mankind.
  • To develop highly qualified and responsible citizens who contribute to the improvement of society and sustainable development of the country.

The Academic Division also assists in the organizing of the Wayamba University Research Congress (WURC) and Wayamba University Research Awards (WURA) which are annual events conducted by the University as to uplift the research culture within the University. Calling applications from Academic members, facilitating to conduct the evaluation, arrangements for awards/certificates for The Most Outstanding Researcher, Most Outstanding Young Researcher, while awarding best researchers at the Faculty level are the major tasks related to the WURA.

Handling of University Research Grants is another important task related to the SRHDC. In addition to facilitating the awarding of the University Research Grants, the Division assists to review progress, biannually and makes arrangements to evaluate final reports by sending them to external experts.
