There’s no doubt that exam season isn’t the most fun season for students. Studying for hours on end can get boring quickly and students will find themselves easily distracted. But it doesn’t always have to be long and boring. We’ve put together helpful tips that can make your study sessions more fun!

Incorporate music
Back in our younger school days, primary teachers would typically use songs to help us remember multiplications, spelling or even scientific facts. Not only does music trigger memories, but helps us remember things more clearly! If you’re struggling to memorize a concept while studying, try turning it into a song to help you remember your materials easily.
Besides turning your lessons into songs, you can also listen to music in the background – that is, if you’re one of those students who are able to concentrate when there’s background noise. Some students are able to write essays while singing along to music, but some aren’t. If you think you can focus on both, try playing music that you enjoy and tracks that put you in a good mood in order to elevate your study sessions. Many find that instrumental music works best!
Turn it into a game
While you don’t have to come up with an intricate puzzle or board game, playful elements can increase learning productivity. Create quizzes and flashcards that provide important bits of information in a unique way. If you’re writing an essay, reward yourself after every page or every few paragraphs with a treat to motivate yourself to continue working.
You could even turn it into a game with your friends! Your friend group could compete to see who finished assignments first and will be rewarded with a prize that you all agree on.
Use fun and colorful stationery
If you’re one of those people who loves stationery, this would be perfect for you! Chances are that if you are into stationery, you most likely have a desk full of post-its, pens, pencils, stickers and whatever else your heart desires.
When practicing for a test or exam, use pens and paper that you wouldn’t be able to use during an official exam. These could be color pens or fancy letter paper. As writing notes significantly helps us remember information, this will help you do so and allows you to have a fun time while studying.
Change your study location
Stuck in your room all day? Studying can get boring pretty quickly if you don’t have a change of scenery. If you’re at home and would rather stay indoors, try switching rooms and furniture to take a break from your normal study space, but make sure there aren’t too many distractions.
Leaving your homes to study at coffee shops or parks can also be helpful! Once you find the perfect spot, you can enjoy the outdoors and natural scenery while you take in information.
Incorporate Art
Drawing or doodling on your notes can also make the learning process more fun. You could draw cartoons or characters that are living out your study material in creative ways. If you’re not the best at drawing, you could also simply doodle but with facts and information you need to retain.
Record what you study
When you write things down and take notes, you’re able to learn the information better. The same applies to when you read facts and information out loud and when you listen actively to it. As you read your study material, read it out loud and record yourself doing so, so that you can listen back to it. Likewise, you could also read it out loud as a poem or a song to make things interesting!
Find a study group
Studying alone can get boring. Try inviting friends over for a group session or even hold a video call to study and review work together. This will benefit you and your friends because if one person doesn’t understand a topic or concept, others can assist. You can also quiz each other as well and help each other learn facts better.
With a group study session, you can also roleplay – especially if you’re studying literature or English. Roleplaying allows students to re-enact situations to remember them better, and lets you have more fun while learning!
