Western University is formerly known as Niwattana University and has been authorized and accredited by the Minister of Education (Minister of university Affairs) to establish a private higher education institution under license no. 2/2540.

On June 18th 1997, the University was established to commemorate the auspicious occasion decreed by the late Bhumibol Adulyadej to bestow the royal title “Princess of Naradhiwas” to his late sister Galyani Vadhana.

The university aims to sustain the country’s growth in the central region and to introduce more opportunity in education to all region of Thailand by giving emphasis to the promotion of the country’s human resources development.

The university’s missions are guided by 4 main tasks which are to produce quality graduates, to promote researches and studies, to provide academic services to the society and to preserve Art and culture. The totality of the missions is to promote the development of the country’s human resources and ultimately to address the country’s need in providing higher education that produces human resources that are highly skilled, equipped with academic excellence, highly professional and righteous.

It strives to be recognized by the society on its academic fields in health medical science, humanities and sociology by providing academic programs in bachelor, master and doctorate degrees and the university prides itself on the continuous commitment to serve the society.

In 1997, the country had initiated the 12th National Economic and Social Development plan (2017-2021) which aims to prioritize the formation of a roadmap to achieve the change of national economic status from middle income country to high income country. It also aims to maintain the social stability and sustainability in order to achieve harmony and to realize its long term vision “Thailand 4.0 – stable, prosperous and sustainable” by giving emphasis on the followings:

  • To promote quality education that is equal and accessible to develop human potential in attaining knowledge and capability in line to the market’s requirements and to support the Asean regional liberalization.
  • To promote the quality of the country’s ageing society. An ageing society requires healthcare services to cope with the deterioration of health. Thus, it establishes the need for healthcare practitioners in various fields to provide better health and sanitation services to enable the elderly in the society to continue working according to their capacity and experiences. This is to ensure adequate income for living, health restoration to prevent disability and chronic diseases that may become a burden to themselves, their families and to the healthcare system.
  • To promote an environment friendly economy and society by means of utilizing available resources sustainably. Furthermore, Western university as a higher education institution, has the capacity to produce professionals in the field of health medical science that are intellectual leaders, possess the moral and professional ethics to live and work in the society in order to serve the country’s ageing society. The university aims to achieve the enhancement of human potential by providing education based on value and quality that cater to the needs of the country and the society. It supports educational activities that promote students’ academic competence and becoming quality and righteous citizens in a borderless society.

The university recognizes the importance of Information technology enhancement as a tool for long distance education via network to provide access for everyone who seeks knowledge regardless of genders, location and age by addressing the needs and continuously maintain a learning environment conducive for life long education and human resources development. Finally, it is to ensure the university’s capability to produce quality graduates that match international standard and for them to become intellectuals who possess moral and professional ethics.
