We are a four form entry Infant School catering for children aged 3-7.We offer an inclusive and enriched curriculum to develop all aspects of learning for children. We have a dedicated and skilled staff body who work hard with our governors and parents to promote good progress and attainment for all. We have high expectations of everyone in our school and value their contribution.
We aim for all children to
At Woodgrange we endeavour to meet the needs of everyone in our school. We believe in the inherent equality of all individuals, irrespective of physical or mental ability, gender or race, and reflect these both in the learning opportunities we offer the children and in the general manner in which all those who come into contact with our school are treated.
The school is opposed to any form of racism and racist behaviour. All children have the right to the best possible education. This means recognising the varied cultural backgrounds of the children and reflecting them in a positive way throughout the life of our school and our curriculum.
Children are encouraged to establish positive relationships with adults and other children. They learn to work co-operatively as part of a group, to understand what is right and wrong and why and to consider the consequences of their actions. Adults working in early years aim to encourage all children, to make sure that each child is given an equal chance to join in with the range of activities on offer and that all children feel equally valued as part of the whole group.
Children have had the opportunities to develop their speaking and listening, reading and writing skills by sharing and enjoying many stories, rhymes and non-fiction books. We have also focused on identifying sound using the ‘Letters and Sounds’ programme.
Children use a range of balancing and climbing apparatus to develop their co-ordination and awareness of space. They use a variety of sports equipment in class and team games. We also focus on using smaller tools, construction and malleable materials to practise skills
We try to make sure that all children are enjoying their learning at school. We constantly review the quality of our curriculum offer to ensure it is appealing and relevant to all groups. The result is a curriculum map which we hope has something for everyone. We do sometimes change the sequence of the topics. We share information about learning through our newsletters and Home Learning books.
We think learning away from school is a very important part of learning. Visits stimulate thinking, develop knowledge and understanding and broaden children’s experiences. We aim for each topic to have a planned visit as well as drawing more spontaneously on the immediate local area.We make full use of the free travel offered to schools by Transport for London and plan visits to places with no entry charge as far as possible. We do, sometimes ask parents for a voluntary contribution towards the costs of educational visits.
At Woodgrange we believe in the inherent equality of all individuals, irrespective of physical or mental ability, gender or race, and try to reflect these both in learning opportunities we offer the children and in the general manner in which all those who come into contact with our school are treated. We wholeheartedly endorse the Local Authority’s Equal Opportunities policy.
