The school’s motto is, ‘A fo ben bid bont’ (which translates as, ‘the leader will be a bridge’) and, as a 3-19 School, we confident that we can help our pupils to move smoothly along an educational continuum. The school’s staff are dedicated in terms of ensuring guidance and support every step of the way and we are always prepared to listen to your views as pupils, parents/guardians and friends of the school in order to continually improve our provision. (Parent’s Questionnaire = Survey Monkey).

The Pupil Deprivation Grant (PDG) is allocated to schools with pupils who come from low-income families and are currently known to be eligible for free school meals (FSM) and pupils who have been looked after continuously for more than six months (LAC). Schools are expected to make the best use of this funding to implement sustainable strategies that will quickly bring about changes for learners eligible for free school meals or who are LAC.

Our aims:

  • To develop a behaviour policy which is supported and followed by the whole school community (parents, staff members and pupils) based on a sense of community and shared values;
  • To create a caring family atmosphere in which teaching and learning can take place in a safe and happy environment;
  • To teach, through the school curriculum, values and attitudes as well as knowledge and skills in order to promote responsible behaviour, encourage self-discipline and encourage in children a respect for themselves, for other people and for property;
  • To ensure that all staff members model positive values, attitudes and behaviour;
  • To encourage good behaviour rather than to simply punish bad behaviour by providing a range of rewards for pupils of all ages and abilities;
  • To make clear to pupils the distinction between minor and more serious misbehaviour and the range of sanctions that will follow;
  • To respond appropriately and effectively to poor behaviour and to treat problems when they occur in a caring and sympathetic manner in the hope of achieving an improvement in behaviour;
  • To develop the pupils’ self-regulation skills, and support them in developing strategies for dealing with anger, frustration, worry and anxiety, which may be the root course of behavioural manifestations and to support pupils in developing independent behavioural modification strategies.

The School believes that every pupil is unique and that every child counts. The school should therefore be a bridge that helps pupils overcome any difficulties and that empowers our learners to become citizens who are ready to learn throughout their lives. Ysgol Bro Pedr is a school with an inclusive, person-centred ethos which prepares all learners to embrace the challenges of the future by providing a happy school for them to develop their skills to the maximum while keeping the needs and ambitions of each pupil at the heart of what we offer within our curriculum.

As a 3-19 School, we are a lifelong bridge with a responsibility to ensure that pupils who leave us at the end of Year 11 or 13 leave the school as confident, informed, creative and principled individuals. To achieve this, Ysgol Bro Pedr will provide a coherent curriculum and learning experiences that bridge the age stages across the 3-19 range. At the core of this vision is the establishment of the Middle School (Years 5-8) which will provide a clear focus to develop the learning continuum across this key age range.

We are a bridge that nurtures healthy, independent and multilingual learners who enjoy their school and their community. Ysgol Bro Pedr 3-19 learners will be learners who show respect for all the school's stakeholders and will be ambitious individuals who continually set high standards for themselves. There will be a strong sense of working together as one community and as a result pupils, staff, parents and carers, governors and all the school's stakeholders will be proud members of the Ysgol Bro Pedr community. Our pupils will value and respect their local community before they spread their wings and venture into the big world. By providing rich experiences and creating a sense of pride in their local community, the school's hope is that many of the pupils will return to enrich their local community and realise their aspirations as valuable members of society.
