Maes y Coed is a very welcoming and open school with caring staff who are committed to supporting the education of all our young people. We pride ourselves on our warm, caring and supportive atmosphere; a place where young people can flourish, learn, enjoy, be happy and safe. We value and encourage support of parents, professionals and friends.

We cater for young people with a variety of complex learning difficulties from the ages of 2 to 19 years of age. At our school we:

  • Have small classes with high staffing ratios
  • Focus on the individual needs of our pupils
  • Have a highly experienced and qualified staff to give high quality learning experiences
  • Provide opportunities for our pupils to experience the community safely and successfully
  • Use the outdoors to deliver lessons– not just classrooms
  • Raise pupil self-esteem and confidence
  • Work with Speech & language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and other professionals for the personalized education of each pupil
  • Help prepare our pupils for life, to enable them to be as successful as possible in the outside world
  • Have wonderful facilities including a hydrotherapy pool, sensory rooms, a wheelchair swing, basket swings, climbing frames, sensory gardens and beautiful grounds all in a secure and safe environment
  • If you would like to have a chat about the school or visit us please contact us on the school number

The curriculum is broad based and designed to meet pupils’ individual needs and to offer relevant experiences including the National Curriculum (although most pupils will be working at levels earlier than their mainstream peers). Many pupils access learning through a sensory curriculum. This learning gives them the basis on which to understand their world.

We provide activities to develop the senses, touch, taste, smell, hearing and vision. Through the sensory curriculum we enable our pupils to gain access to those experiences which provide the basis of learning.
