Job Summary
Operating under the broad direction of the Director, Teaching and Learning, the Deputy Director will work to improve the support provided to the teaching and learning activities of the University in the areas of curriculum innovation, teaching and learning technologies, library services and academic policy. A key aspect of the role will be driving educational change towards flexibility, technologically-enhanced teaching and learning, and a focus on the student experience. The Deputy will assist with advice to other senior members of the University.

The role will involve liaison with numerous internal and external stakeholders, as well as functioning as acting Director when required. The Deputy will also play a senior role in managing staff in the T&L Directorate. He or she will supervise several managers and their teams within T&L (the Education Innovation team, as
well as either or both of the learning technologies team and the academic governance and
quality teams, depending on qualifications and experience).
Duties
- Directly line-manage 2-3 team leaders/managers within Teaching and Learning.
- Provide leadership within the group to ensure that education innovation, learning technologies and policies are aligned to meet the strategic needs of UC.
- Assist the Director, Teaching and Learning in the implementation of education projects that further the strategic goals of the University.
- Play a senior role in dealing with the day-to-day management of a range of educational issues within the DVCE portfolio.
- Assist the Director, Teaching and Learning with the management of projects and resources in the Directorate.
- Prepare high-level correspondence and reports for internal committees and external bodies.
- Represent the Director, the Directorate and the DVCE Portfolio on internal and external bodies and committees.
- Ensure quality assurance and continuous improvement of processes for all services provided by Teaching and Learning.
- Make a positive contribution to achievement of performance targets related to Teaching and Learning.
- Provide advice to the University Community on a range of educational issues.
- Undertake other duties relevant to the role as directed by the Director, Teaching and Learning.
Criteria
- A tertiary qualification and /or extensive relevant experience. Post-graduate degree preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience in a complex educational environment, preferably within higher education, including a track record of inspiring and motivating teams to achieve results.
- Demonstrated experience in the areas of learning and teaching, curriculum design, education innovation, and flexible learning, and at least one of the following: the management of educational technologies academic quality and governance.
- Demonstrated understanding of the role of work integrated learning (WIL) to the student experience and the ability to create innovative WIL programmes.
- A track record of introducing systems and processes that enhance business and educational outcomes.
- Demonstrated project design and project management skills including the capacity to plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate educational programs and services to meet the needs of higher education staff and students from a variety of backgrounds.
- Demonstrated understanding of the higher education system and policies, particularly as they relates to educational futures.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to implementation of equity and workplace health and safety principles, preferably in a higher education context.
