Management of the Polytrauma Patient

This course is designed for nurses interested in recognizing and managing the polytrauma patient

Targeted audience: Any staff nurse working in an Emergency Department

Learning objectives:

• Learn a systematic approach to assess the polytrauma patient
• Nursing interventions according to findings
• Preparation of the patient for further interventions
• Communicate efficiently to other health care professionals and the patient
• Handing over the patient in a standardized manner (SBAR)

Program:

• Review of concepts from literature
• Get to know the human patient simulator and equipment
• Demonstration session
• Simulation sessions that will include the following: internal bleeding, changes in conscious level, open fractures, hypovolemic shock
• Debriefing
