Total Quality Management (TQM)

The quality management movement began in the manufacturing sector, but a growing concern with quality in other areas of the economy has ‎led to its application in service industries, government, health, education, and other nonprofit agencies. However, the acceptable margin of errors ‎and defects is dwindling and diminishing in health and food although there is a big room for improvements just to reach the levels, which are ‎common in the manufacturing section. So, people in other disciplines have a lot to achieve and a great deal of learning to assimilate from the ‎established manufacturing practices.‎The best definition for the Concern for Quality as competency is something like: monitoring work, systems, and processes and taking action to ‎ensure that they meet or exceed standards. Such a simple statement can mean the success of failure of any manufacturing or service ‎organization. In the case of services related to the health of man, the concern for quality can be a matter of life and death to a great number of ‎consumers.
