Chemistry Extended Degree
The BSc Chemistry Extended Degree begins with a foundation year (Year 0), during which you’ll gain a broad knowledge of key scientific disciplines and develop the confidence, motivation and skills that are vital for continuing on at honours level. This four-year course includes a foundation year (Year 0), providing an alternative route into higher education if you don't have the traditional qualifications or can't meet the entry requirements for an undergraduate degree. As well as an understanding of the fundamentals of chemistry, you’ll gain laboratory experience and essential IT and research skills.
Throughout your foundation year and beyond, you’ll benefit from the knowledge and experience of our exemplary staff; many lecturers are current industry experts or active researchers. They’ll guide you through the fundamentals of physical, inorganic and organic chemistry and your chosen speciality topics.
You’ll learn in our £30 million Science Centre, with 280+ cutting-edge workstations, giving you hands-on experience with the latest technology in the field. As well as a laboratory-based project in your final year, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in various work-based placements.
Assessment consists of progress tests, online tests, coursework, practical reports and presentations.
The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry to give partial exemption from the requirements for Chartered Chemist status.
