Project Management and Sustainability

Project management has become very crucial in today’s world, be it for construction projects, software projects or R&D projects including new product development. Projects are different from routine operations in an organization and are found to be critical in implementation of many organizational strategies. The main objective of this program is to provide professionals employed in the construction industry with an overview of the key skills and techniques employed in project management. In the process of applying these practices within the context of in-class case studies and scenarios, participants will also reflect upon the impact of their decisions from a sustainability perspective. The reason, simply, is that the risks associated with a ‘business-as-usual’ approach are beginning to escalate, as extreme weather events become more common, and stocks of natural capital diminish.

Pedagogy

Blended delivery of content, with in-class mini-lectures, exercises, and group case study analysis, complemented by learning resources available digitally through a course website.

Learing Outcomes

On completion of the program Coachee will be able to:

• Identify and explain the key concepts and theories relating to sustainability and their relevance to the construction industry.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of project management processes.
• Plan, schedule, and control activities and resources, and monitor project progress.
• Assess and strike balance between cost, time and scope of a project.
• Identify project stake holders, do risk analysis, and develop response plans.
• Critically evaluate the intricacies of project earned value analysis.
• Analyze, identify and resolve the quality issues in project management.
