The University of Southern Denmark welcomed the first students onto the campus in Odense in September 1966, and things have been developing by leaps and bounds ever since. We now have five faculties with more than 32,000 students, almost 20% of whom are from abroad, and more than 4,000 employees distributed across our main campus in Odense and regional campuses in Slagelse, Kolding, Esbjerg and Sønderborg. Several international studies document that we conduct world-class research and are one of the top fifty young universities in the world.

Over the years, the University of Southern Denmark has interwoven many lives. The roughly five years which a student invests in a university education will lay the groundwork for the rest of his or her life. And with around 115 different study programmes in the fields of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences and engineering, graduates of the University of Southern Denmark are now members of virtually every profession in the international community.

Together departments and centres cover a wide range of research fields and educational opportunities. Every faculty consists of several departments, where the departments have a noticeable academic and economic independence and responsibility within the scope of the Dean.

At each department the Dean appoints a head of department. The person in question must be an acknowledged researcher and have teaching experience within one of the subject areas of the department.

To promote and make communication and knowledge exchange visible the faculties cooperate with various external parties. These activities are organised in so-called centres.

The centres serve to promote special purposes in research, education or knowledge exchange.

A centre is established through a contract or a project with one or more external parties. The purpose and function of the centre is determined in collaboration with the faculty and the external parties involved. The centre’s tasks are established through an action plan for a given operational period.

Studied here for a couple years and managed to finish my graduates here. School and environment was great, which had most things you would expect from a university campus, and the programs were all on high level and professionally organized. There are a few things I didn't like though, such as the cafeteria food and the atrocious prices on the vending machines.

Very nice university. Medium sized, meaning that it's big enough for everything but small enough to get a good overview. Nice people. Good academic profile. Very open minded and non-political university (a lot of other universities have a bias).
