The University of Cergy-Pontoise – UCP – is a national university along with 17 other national universities in the Paris area. The UCP is an attractive centre of teaching and research which hosts international students interested in studying in France for a semester, an academic year or a longer stay in order to obtain a degree.

The University of Cergy-Pontoise - UCP -  is a dynamic state-funded university among 13 institutions for higher education and a leading centre of teaching and research, which hosts 15 000 students and 1 700 international students interested in studying abroad during a semester or an academic year - September to June - or in obtaining a degree. As an academic and vocational establishment, five major disciplines are mainly being taught: law, economics and management, international studies and modern languages, humanities, science and technology. In addition, a large range of vocational courses are created to satisfy the need of today's job market. Furthermore, an institute of technology - IUT - a teacher training institure - IUFM - and an administrative training institute - IPAG - are to be found at UCP.

The city of Cergy-Pontoise, located in the Val-d’Oise district, is a dynamic city with its artistic and cultural events and numerous theatres, museums and concert halls. It is one of the largest economic zones in France with two international airports nearby. The Val-d’Oise is a district with a high density of firms including a large number of foreign companies.

The University of Cergy-Pontoise is ideally located at 40-minute drive North West from Paris, and at 30 km from Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle international airport. The university is accessible by train, bus and highways.

Cergy-Pontoise university is home to around 30 student associations. Joining an association can be a way to meet other students and share spe­cial moments. Many associations organize par­ties, sports events, conferences, shows, etc.

With more than 500 PhD-hold researchers and 430 Phd students working in 22 research centers, two Centers of Excellence (Labex) and 6 open labs, the University of Cergy-Pontoise is among the most active research centers in France with a high international standard. The University entered into the Shanghai Ranking in 2012 with its mathematics activities as well as into the Taiwan ranking.

The university of Cergy-Pontoise is part of the Paris Seine University , which has been awarded by the I-SITE (Initiative Science-Innovation-Territory-Economy) in the framework of the PIA program (French government’s “Investments for the Future” program). This program aims at identifying a dozen French academic institutions for their capacity to become world-class universities, recognized for the quality of their research focusing on fields of excellence, and also for the quality of their education and their integration in the socio-economic fabric.
