Victoria University achieved university status in 1991, but our preceding institutions date back to 1916. We are one of Australia’s few dual-sector universities. Today, we have over 40,000 enrolled higher education, and vocational education and training students studying on our campuses.

As one of 39 public universities in Australia, graduates can be assured their qualification from VU is being awarded from a university operating in a world-class education system.
Being a dual-sector university means that our students can easily pathway from vocational education to higher education - such as from a certificate or diploma course through to an undergraduate degree or even a postgraduate qualification by coursework or research. As the University of Opportunity and Success, we will be open and excellent, creating exceptional value for any student from any background and uplifting the communities in which we operate. We will achieve this vision by:
Over the course of our one hundred year history, we have proudly focused on creating education and training opportunities for students in the West of Melbourne and beyond. Our aim is to be a great university of the 21st century. We will provide exceptional value to our students, guiding them to succeed through personalised, flexible and industry relevant learning opportunities.
The applied and translational research by our staff and their students, as well as our graduates as employees and citizens, will enhance social and economic outcomes in our heartland. Healthier, smarter and more sustainable communities will result. In the 21st century it is almost impossible to be a successful participant in the global knowledge economy or society without a tertiary education. A great university in the 21st century needs to provide an offer to students that emphasises and values diversity and inclusivity. Victoria University is your university of opportunity and success.
This is an exciting and challenging time for VU. We have a great opportunity to develop a dynamic university model that is relevant to the needs and aspirations of contemporary learners and the community of the 21st century. Love the university. Has plenty of amazing people that attend this university. The teachers are mostly friendly with the exception of a few. Excellent place for learning..

Pretty good uni. Lots of course and subject variety and post grad study. Some of the building are a bit dated and in need of repair. Not a wide variety of food either in cafeteria. Teachers on the whole are pretty good and usually try and help you out. Student services and student administration is ridiculously difficult for no apparent reason. Parking is also difficult.
