International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH) is an autonomous university, founded as a not-for-profit public private partnership (N-PPP) in 1998, and is the first IIIT in India under this model. Over the years, the institute has evolved strong research programmes in various areas, with an emphasis on technology and applied research for industry and society. The institute facilitates interdisciplinary research and a seamless flow of knowledge. Several world-renowned centres of excellence are part of IIITH’s research portfolio. It has established various joint collaboration and co-innovation models with an industry outreach spanning significant national and multinational companies. Its innovative curriculum allows students the flexibility of selecting their courses and projects. Apart from academics the institute provides students with a comprehensive environment that promotes art and culture, sports, societal contributions and self-governance. Even undergraduate students get to participate in ongoing research and technology development - an opportunity unprecedented in India. As a result, a vibrant undergraduate programme co-exists along with a strong postgraduate programme.

The Institute has well-equipped, air-conditioned computer laboratories allocated batch-wise to the students. They contain the latest hardware and software. The average PC-to-student ratio is 1:2. All computers are part of an intranet (1Gbps Backbone), which connects all buildings, including the hostels round the clock. Researchers have 24 hours access to the computational facilities. The students administer their own computer systems. Research centers provide specialized, high-end equipment, as needed in research and development projects.

The Library has a large collection of Reference Books, Text Books, Technical reports, Standards, Literature books and CDROMS. The Library is being managed with fully integrated multi-user Library Management Software. Using this software, cataloguing and circulation services are being automated along with Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility. A digital library is also maintained. It is an online archive of useful software, books and tutorials. Students can download any permitted software from this resource. There are many textbooks and reference books available in the digital format as well. Many lectures have also been recorded and are available online for students use. Most courses maintain an intranet site containing lecture slides and other course material.

The institute gives sufficient incentive for everyone to excel in any of the plethora of activities and skills available. Facilities are provided for cricket, volley ball, soccer, basket ball, table tennis, etc. We also have understanding with nearby stadiums for other sports facilities such as badminton, hockey, swimming, etc. Gymnasium facilities are available in hostel with a physical trainer. Apart from the common gym which is open for all residents, a separate mini gym is also provided for girls in the girls hostel.

IIIT Hyderabad was set up in 1998 under the public private partnership model, with the state government supplying a grant of land and buildings. As special officer for IIIT Hyderabad and Secretary IT for the state government, Ajay Prakash Sawhney was responsible for shaping the conceptual model and overseeing initial development of the institute. Prof. Rajeev Sangal designed the syllabus and served as the first director of the institute until 10 April 2013.

Best Computer Science Program in India. International Institute of Information Technology has around 80 faculty in Computer Science and Electronics areas, more than most of the older IITs. This is a research driven institute. Undergraduate students participate in research and publish papers in international journals.

Currently a student here. And I love the immense span of research work going on here. Anybody interested in speech, I'd recommend you to join the Speech Processing Lab here.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd definitely join IIIT Hyderabad! Even though I failed to fully utilize the amazing opportunities I had, I enjoyed learning certain subjects (other subjects I thought were too difficult for me to understand!) and the hostel mess food was wonderful, and healthy! Moreover, the hot climate of Hyderabad suits me just fine. Its location is also quite good, near ISB, Infosys, Microsoft, TCS and the DLF building, so if some events are happening at these locations (talks, workshops etc.), the students can benefit from attending those! I felt the only drawback, during my time, was that some labs were more successful than others in terms of research culture and results in research community. It is important to make sure all the labs are performing well (since all the labs carry IIIT-Hyderabad brand name), and if there's certain requirements, like Infrastructure or faculty, then that must be provided.

Opportunities galore. Most of all great faculty, and the student has power to choose what he wants. Its a wonderful place for CS students, but non-CS I would say it's not much of a contender.

IIIT Hyderabad taught me things i've never learned back in Malaysia. Cried throughout my whole first semester but it has taught me a lot. Especially in sharpening my algorithm and programming skills. Highly recommended to those outside India to come join this institute for a totally different and eye opener experience.
