The foundation of the Islamic University, Islamabad was laid on the first day of the fifteenth century Hijrah i.e. Muharram 1, 1401 (November 11,1980). This landmark of the beginning of the new Century symbolizes the aspirations and hopes of the Muslim Ummah for an Islamic renaissance. The university was created to produce scholars and practitioners who are imbued with Islamic ideology, whose character and personality conforms to the teachings of Islam, and who are capable to cater to the economic, social, political, technological and intellectual needs of the Muslim Ummah. Islamic Research Institute and few other units like Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue, Dawah Academy, Shariah Academy and Institute of Professional Development are situated within the premises of majestic Faisal Mosque (spread over an area of 189,705 square meters) which is a symbol of International Islamic brotherhood and unity. In conformance with the Islamic precepts, the university provides academic services to men and women through separate campuses for each segment. These campuses, along with the central library, administrative wing and hostels, are located in sector H-10.
To provide every opportunity for an all round and harmonious development of individuals and society and reconstruction of human thought in all its forms on the foundations of Islam in order to encourage and promote education, training the research in Islamic learning, social, natural, applied and communication sciences and other branches of learning to ensure the Muslim Ummah’s ideological, moral, intellectual, social, economic and technological development in accordance with the values, ideals, principles and norms of Islam.
To optimize integration and Islamization of the contemporary knowledge and human thought in international perspective through established institutions and academic endeavors to achieve excellence in all branches of knowledge.

International Islamic University, Islamabad, is in the process of embarking on a new phase in the history of the University. We are busy in making preparations for an expansion plan both in terms of education as well as in terms of physical development. A couple of years back the University has shifted to its new campus in Sector H-10 of Islamabad. The vast and beautiful area allocated to the International Islamic University by the Government of Pakistan provides almost unlimited opportunities for expansion and diversification for the next 25 years. The University was established in 1980 to commemorate the dawn of the 15th century of Hijrah. The new century was considered by many in the Muslim World to be the beginning of new era of unity, development, progress and reconstruction of institutions of the Muslims. The University seeks to promote this very objective at the intellectual plane. According to the Ordinance that brought it into being, the University aims at providing for all round and harmonious development of individuals and the society and to reconstruct human thought in all its forms on the foundation of Islam.
The hallmark of the University’s educational philosophy is the integration of Islamic knowledge with contemporary intellectual achievements. The courses and Islamic programmes designed by the University during the last 25 years reflect the thinking and aspirations of Muslim educationists, thinkers and leaders of Islamic revivalism who guided the Muslim Ummah during the last century. In a way, the International Islamic University is a combination of the academic and intellectual traditions set by the Aligarh Muslim University, the Darul Ulum of Deoband and the Nadwat-ul-Ulama in addition to other rich academic traditions of the Sub-continent. Thus, we aim at producing profound Islamic jurists, enlightened Islamic scholars, competent economists, professional business executives, articulate litterateurs and perceptive thinkers, with an Islamic perspective on the one hand and professionalism and depth of knowledge on the other.
We have endeavored in this University to set certain standards and succeeded. For example, our examinations are never postponed, results are always declared according to the announced schedule; studies are never disrupted by any disorder; admissions are always on merit and nobody has had cause to complain otherwise; and many other good practices that should be the hallmark of any University.

The International Islamic University Islamabad is a Public University and Islamic Educational Institution is situated in a Complete Sector H-11. There are Islamic Sciences research studies are good as compare to other Universities of Pakistan. Various Studies Departments are there with separate Boys and Girls campus. Now a day Once again foreign Students took free of cost admission on Merit, most of them are Chinese Origin Muslims, rest of are from Far East countries , Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand. Central Asian Muslims Countries Students are also include in a list. Govt. of Pakistan constructed a New Metro Bus Route from Peshawar Mor to New Islamabad International Airport, built up a new Metro Bus Station for IIUI students.

I have been to many universities, IIUI is one of the best in terms of facilities like transport system, sports, labs, library, lincoln centre, business incubation centre, exchange program with Turkey University and education in some department is top in the country while others are also better wrt many universities. Besides this everyone must know the culture at iiu is totally different so you will get yourself troubled if you compare it with cultures of other uni's. Its more like a hippie life at iiu. There are people from different backgrounds and countries, it's populated with kids of diplomates to the lower and middle class students. It has a multicultural experiences platform, peaceful environment if you are serious about studies. Well, i should also mention it has a gender segregation, most student get disappointed because of it but trust me its doesnt matter. Its better to have fully seperate thn having annoying rules as in other university and you can also save alot of time impressing girls or showing off your class. Students are very humble and down to earth no tension of polishing or spending on cloth etc. If you want coeducation better dont go for IIU in the first place but you would miss all good opportunities of IIU. Well, there are issues in every university, with admin staff etc, but its where you learn how to make your work done. You can also learn different languages along with your studies like Chinese, Arabic, Persian, Turkish due to multilingual culture. The choice is yours, all the best.
