Student admission in Arellano University is governed by Article XIII, Section 60 of the Revised Manual of Regulations for Private Schools, which provides for the basic requirements of eligibility for admission to any collegiate educational program or course.

Arellano University adopts an "open admission, selective-retention" policy. Consistent with its statement of mission and vision, the University welcomes all students interested in the pursuit of scholarly learning, regardless of race, creed, religion and personal circumstances. Everyone desirous of education within the framework, atmosphere and standards set by the school is assumed to possess the minimum intellectual, emotional and physical requirements ordinarily expected of a student. Once admitted to any of the programs of the University, the student has the responsibility to maintain a minimum level of achievement to be allowed continuous enrolment in the school.

Graduates from a secondary level program recognized by the Department of Education (DepEd), as evidenced by Form 138 (High School Report Card), shall be allowed enrolment in the school. Graduates of foreign secondary schools who may not fully satisfy the specific requirements of certain collegiate programs or courses may be admitted, provided that such deficiency is corrected during their initial school term.

The school also requires all student-applicants or new students to submit a certificate of good moral character from the principal of the school last attended and/or from the barangay authorities of the community he lives in. (A new student is either a Freshman or a Transferee who is enrolling in the University for the first time.)

Cross enrollees (students of other schools seeking admission to the University after the first term in any given school year) must submit a permit to cross-enroll from the school of origin, stating therein the subjects to be taken and reason for cross enrolment.Trainees and seminar participants should comply with the requirements specified in the agreement, contract, or similar instrument of authorization regarding their training in any unit of the University or participation in any seminar conducted at the University.

As a general rule, Arellano University allows its students a maximum term of academic residency of six (6) school years for a four-year course, and seven (7) years for a five-year course. During this maximum term of residency, which is inclusive of summer classes, leaves of absence, and course shifting, the student must complete his/her course and obtain his/her degree or diploma. The term of residency starts from the date of admission/ registration until graduation and/or conferment of degree.

Any student who has already used up his or her maximum term of residency in the University, but does not succeed yet in completing a course or obtaining a degree within the prescribed period, may formally request for an extension of his or her term of residency. The University's Admissions Committee will act on the request and approve or disapprove after a due evaluation of the justifications presented.

An extension of the academic term of residency shall require the student-petitioner to take an additional three-unit subject per semester, exclusive of summer, starting from the expiration date of the maximum term of residency in his or her degree program.

Students enrolled in any of the colleges or institutes of the University, whatever their course may be, are classified by year level based on the curricular requisites and in accordance with the degree program they are pursuing. Thus, First Year students are classified as Freshmen (Level 1), Second Year students are classified as Sophomores (Level 2), Third Year students are classified as Juniors (Level 3), and Fourth Year students are classified as Seniors (Level 4). Students who are in the Firth Year of their courses are classified as Terminal (Level 5).

The Office of the College Dean determines the student's classification, based on an evaluation policy. The College Dean advises the student regarding this matter Registrar's Office about this matter before the student registers or enrolls in the next term or year level.

A student's continued study in the University is based on the cumulative General Weighted Average (GWA) of grades in all subjects in the approved academic load during a semester or term, including PE and NSTP / ROTC. The National Service Training Program (NSTP consists of the following components: (a) Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC), (b) Literacy Training Service (LTS), and (c) Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS). Each of these component trainings shall be undertaken within two semesters only.

Students who are going from second to third year of college (e.g., Nursing students who are about to participate in the capping ceremony) must show a GWA of 2.5, including PE and NSTP/ROTC. In addition, students enrolled in programs with Board requirements must go through a Panel Interview, which will recommend the means by which the student's "weak areas" may be addressed. Students who fail to achieve the required GWA may, nevertheless, enroll in the following semester or term according to their normal schedules of classes, but may be required to take special remedial classes in their identified academic areas of weaknesses.

Third year students going on fourth year must pass the college-administered Revalida and obtain a GWA of 2.5, including PE and NSTP/ROTC. They must also pass the college-administered Revalida with a minimum grade of 75%. Students who fail the first Revalida are given a second chance to pass in the Summer, prior to their senior year. Students who fail the second Revalida and/or fail to achieve the required GWA may, nevertheless, enroll according to their normal schedules of classes, but may be required to take special remedial classes in their identified academic areas of weakness. The Score in the Revalida will constitute 20% of the final grade for Course Audit I.
