UWE Bristol is a University Alliance university with a common mission to make the difference to our cities and regions. We use our experience of providing high quality teaching and research with real world impact to shape higher education and research policy for the benefit of our students and business and civic partners. We innovate together, learn from each other and support every member to transform lives and deliver growth.

With more than 600 courses on offer, at undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and short course level, we offer a broad range of subjects across the arts, creative industries, health, science, business, law, environment and technology disciplines. We are well known for the quality of our teaching, and for our student experience as a whole. We’ve built close links with leading employers such as CERN, Rolls Royce, the NHS, Aardman Animation and the BBC to help develop the right content for our courses and to give our students exposure to diverse professional opportunities.

Our core purpose, our ambition, our strengths and our values. These are the things that underpin the way we work with our students, staff and partners at UWE Bristol, and that guide the way we develop as a university, as outlined in our Strategy 2020. Advancing knowledge, inspiring people, transforming futures.

To be a university recognised for the success and impact of our professionally-recognised and practice-oriented programmes; our strong industry networks and connections; our agile ways of working; and our inclusive and global outlook and approach.  We are a university for the real world. This is evident in:

  • the lengths we go to, to equip and prepare our students for their future
  • our strong links with over 1,000 employers to ensure our courses meet industry and professional needs
  • the influential research we’re leading, to address pressing local and global issues
  • our well-established services for businesses and strong reputation for supporting innovation and growth
  • the active part we play in the development of the Bristol city-region and the South West.

There are a wide variety of study options available to our postgraduate students making it easier than ever to find an option that works for you. We offer a range of online and offline, full-time or part-time, taught and research courses in a wide range of disciplines, varying in length depending on the qualification and the mode of study. Some build on previous study, while others are open to graduates of any discipline or those with relevant work experience.

Our focus is on giving you what you need to take that next step, whether that’s accelerating your career, starting something new or enhancing your subject knowledge. A full-time taught Master's degree usually involves a nine-month taught element and a three-month research project, so is likely to take 12 months to complete full time.

Part-time options are available on many courses, and length of study depends on the course delivery. It is quite common for the part-time route to take three years. The award may be an MA (Master of Arts), MSc (Master of Science), or MBA (Master of Business Administration). It may involve a detailed study of a particular aspect of your academic discipline, be vocational and accredited by a professional body, or be a course that provides a clear route into a profession, developing your knowledge and skills in a new subject.

Our professional short courses are delivered by academics and postgraduate researchers within the Department of Applied Sciences. We cater for a range of laboratory science disciplines, in the areas of environmental, forensic and biomedical science. We also offer courses in specialisms such as science communications.

We offer a suite of courses accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) for bioscience graduates who wish to pursue a career as a biomedical scientist. The ‘top-up’ modules cover a range of specialist subjects, eg microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, microbiology, cellular pathology and haematology, and transfusion. They can be taken individually or collectively and allow you to gain the academic and professional competencies in order to register with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist.

Prior to applying you should contact the IBMS for an assessment of your first degree and to determine your ‘top-up’ components. Our expert staff and diverse portfolio of professional short courses offer you the opportunity to acquire new skills and enhance your existing work-based experience to give you the competitive edge and take your career to the next level. Pre and Post 16 activities we can bring to your school or college and opportunities for your students to visit our campuses and experience life at UWE Bristol.

We organise a number of activities and schemes in order to help raise aspirations, attainment and awareness of higher education. The Bristol Business School at UWE Bristol has invested in an impressive new financial trading room built around the Bloomberg Professional service. This latest state-of-the-art service is the same system used by large city investment banks, and provides students in the Business School with a commanding view of the global financial data, news and information. The trading room helps put UWE Bristol at the forefront of business teaching and research among the universities in UK.

Fantastic campus, with great buildings and facilities. The lectures was really insightful. Their support system for students could be monitored a little better, but overall I enjoyed my time here and would recommend the University to others.

Good teaching but they need to work on the organization .. Personal support is greatly available if asked for .. Equipment for studying is well available .. Food or other items from the Student Unions Shop are really e expensive .. The offers for sports & societies are great though .. Overall Good university...!
