The University of West London draws on a heritage of 150 years in teaching and professional education. First founded as the Lady Byron School in 1860, the institution as it exists today was originally formed from the merger of Ealing College of Higher Education, Thames Valley College of Higher Education, the London College of Music and Queen Charlotte’s College of Health Care Studies. In 1991, the institution became the Polytechnic of West London, before gaining full university status in 1992 to become Thames Valley University. The University subsequently evolved through a number of mergers. It merged with Northwick Park School of Nursing, Riverside College of Nursing and the North West Thames Regional Health Authority's AIDS Unit in 1994, Berkshire College of Nursing and Midwifery in 1995, and with Reading College and School of Art and Design in 2004. In July 2010 the University completed the divestment of its site in King's Road, Reading, (now known as Reading College) and in April 2011 formally changed its name to The University of West London, following prior approval from The Privy Council. The new name reflects a re-focusing of the University's activities on its Ealing and Brentford sites. In May 2011 the University celebrated the installation of Laurence Geller as its new Chancellor. Laurence is himself an alumnus of the University and a leading figure in the hospitality and tourism sector. From the outset, the University has played and continues to play a significant role in the educational, cultural and economic life of its region.

I intended to to undertake an MSc in Dementia Care, but left at the PG.Cert stage, due to the poor quality of teaching and resources. The assessment procedures were also inconsistent and unfair, and the structure of the course was substandard.

They are really disrespectful and uneducated! They make up diagnoses and label you mentally sick if you dare stick up for your human rights! They are racist too! Not a good place if you are a mature nursing student! If you come from an academic background they become very jealous!

I've spent one semester at UWL due to the Erasmus+ programme. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, Erasmus+ programme enables students from the EU to gain academic experience at other universities. You're attending indentical courses as at your home university, only abroad. UWL helped me to find an accomodation in Paragon and provided me with useful information before my arrival. I was higly impressed by the teaching stuff. Everyone was very supportive and always available for questions. What I liked the most was the 24/7 library, where I spent countless hours. I also met a lot of people with an international background, who became very close friends in a short period of time. Thank you UWL for this great experience.

I attended an open day. It's just money making university and no quality education. Staff was very rude with zero information. Building is so small and tuition fees are very high. Noisy atmosphere everywhere. It should be a primary school.

As my first experience of working in a university, i have been hugely impressed with the services available to students the way in which most lectures really want to help and make a difference. Whilst people make mistakes at times and the systems don't always work in the way they are meant to, i have always found the staff willing to go the extra mile. They really do care and try their best. I am immensely proud to work here, particularly in the business school
