It’s an essential ingredient for a values-based education that creates an environment balancing academic accomplishments with the goal of developing students' social and relationship skills to last a lifetime, make a difference, and model others to do the same. In doing this, VIU is making an invaluable contribution to much stronger and healthier communities and a better world.

Students and alumni tell us all the time how VIU’s small classes and caring support from faculty and staff have made a difference for them in finding success in their studies. The attention to every student’s needs goes far beyond a number. The result? Students have the opportunity to become graduates who are confident, motivated and prepared to take on the world as they step into future careers.

Students go above and beyond in programs that provide a match for their passion, their ambition, and their future career aspirations. The focus at VIU is on helping students meet their goals, prepare for careers, and attain success they may not even have imagined when they started. Students experience hands-on learning, individual attention, and many opportunities for undergraduate research. Students can find the right VIU program to help them prepare for a multitude of careers. Advisors are with them from day one, whether they start out with fundamental upgrading for university entrance, or if they’re a top high school scholar attending on scholarship.

Students experience an active, exciting west coast BC lifestyle as they explore the region, taking advantage of world-class recreation while studying at VIU. Surfing, hiking, scuba diving, camping? Yes please! Authentic cultural and arts experiences? You’ll find it all at VIU and beyond, at our campuses in Nanaimo, Cowichan, Powell River and Parksville-Qualicum. We invite you to explore the possibilities of a career with Vancouver Island University. At this university, the blend of innovative teaching and dedicated staff has sparked a remarkable transformation in my child's academic journey, making learning both enriching and enjoyable.

You're time and money are better spent at real universities like UVIC or UBC. Even if they have your program don't expect them to not cut it before you finish your degree and send you somewhere else anyway.

Took the HCA course 2016/2017 and it was AMAZING! Teachers were awesome and the rest of the faculty rocked too! Beautiful campus in Nanaimo, the land of the stairs and bunnies haha!!! If I decide to go back for my LPN then I will definitely be going back to VIU! I highly recommend VIU!!!

VIU has many advantages, but I'm leaving this review in regards to the atrocious parking situation. Last year was bad enough, but with the new construction even more parking spots have disappeared and finding a place to park at any point after 8:20AM is an absolute nightmare. Not only that, but resources are being wasted on security members to essentially 'guard' areas of the campus so that students do not park there (but hey! If there were any spots left, we wouldn't need to)! VIU has disappointed its students by taking advantage of us. There was no limit to the amount of parking passes sold, and yet you cannot meet the demands of your students for parking. Perhaps, due to the construction, a discount on student bus passes could have been offered in compensation so as to minimize the use of parking. However, VIU has blindly turned away from the problem and left it up to the students to resolve the problem. For some, this has meant showing up an hour or two early in order to find parking, for others, it has meant being late to class or exams. VIU is not effectively handling this situation, and it is only getting worse as the semester carries on.

This is such a fantastic university. I love the smaller classes and campus than other universities. Nanaimo is beautiful and has much to offer. I value the education I am receiving here and the friends I have made.

One of my favourite parts of Nanaimo is our University on the hill. Passionate faculty, small classes, so many stairs, it's a great way to exercise your mind and body for the future.

Never had a bad professor . Always very reasonable in expectations and seemed to truly care about students.

Going into my last semester at VIU, I have been reflecting on all the relationships I value here and the opportunities that have been given to me through the small campus structure. It truly is an incredible place to learn, live, and love everyday as you pursue your passions. Get involved, learn from others, and never give up!

Make sure you know exactly where on campus you are going. Can be a bit confusing to find the right parking lot/building
