We are a teaching-focused university offering a wide range of programs and services that enable students to succeed in their current studies, in their ongoing education, in their chosen careers, in their lifelong pursuit of knowledge, and in their contribution as responsible citizens in a rapidly changing and diverse global community.
Capilano University's main campus is located in North Vancouver, B.C., just a 30-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. Surrounded by a lush forest and fresh mountain air, the campus is an inspiring setting in which to learn and grow. CapU also has a regional campus in Sechelt that serves the communities of the Sunshine Coast. CapU enrols approximately 11,600 students each year, 8,300 in for-credit programs and 3,300 in non-credit courses.
The University is named after Chief Joe Capilano, an important leader of the Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh) Nation of the Coast Salish people. Our campuses are located on the traditional and ancestral territory of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueam, Lil’wat and Sechelt (shíshálh) Nations. At Capilano University, students are safe, comfortable and challenged and find the individual attention that can make a difference to their achievements. It is our goal to ensure that our students come first – not only at Capilano, but in all of their pursuits.
Capilano University was founded by the school boards and residents of North Vancouver, West Vancouver and Howe Sound through referendum in 1968. Classes that first year were held in a small building on the grounds of West Vancouver Secondary School. Initial enrolment that first year was 784 students. Today, Capilano University has blossomed into a publicly-funded learning institution that serves 8,300 students in for-credit programs and 3,300 in non-credit courses annually. The University has more than 1,000 employees.
In 1973, Capilano University opened its permanent 13.76 hectare (34-acre) campus in the Lynnmour area of North Vancouver. That same year, the University also established a regional centre in Squamish to serve the Howe Sound communities of Squamish, Whistler, Mount Currie and Pemberton. In 1977, Capilano University opened the Sunshine Coast campus in Sechelt to serve the communities of the Sunshine Coast. In 2008, the provincial government changed Capilano College's designation to Capilano University.

Awesome university. Small campus which I like. Great profs that care a lot about their students, friendly staff everywhere you go. Love the cafeteria food. Nice campus and I never have trouble finding parking.

Would NOT recommend this facility to anyone. Everyone at the registrar's office is clueless and has no intentions on helping you. Don't waste your time here.

local community school cares nothing but making money. take many international students from China. made lots of money out of them. Really has nothing to learn over there. if you want go to a real school, go to BCIT. find a job much fast and high pay.

Teachers are well educated and and extremely helpful. The campus is beautiful and has many resources and shops for food and drinks. I love it and would highly recommend it to other students looking to pursue the arts or sciences. My only complaint would be that the tuition rate to attend is extremely high. It's almost impossible to attend this school without relying on a student loan.

Capilano University is filled with great teachers, who are dedicated and passionate. The atmosphere here is great. Outlook is awesome.....moreover it's look like a tree of knowledge.

I hope this doesn't come across as overly cliche but CapU changed my life. This is a truly special community of students, staff and professors. CapU is a great sized school which makes connecting with your professors and classmates easy. The community feel of CapU make an ideal fit for anyone wanting to be apart of something bigger than themselves. I studied business administration and the program fast tracked my growth both professionally and personally. Highly recommend!

Great School. It's a beautiful campus with a unique location. Most professors/instructors are knowledgeable and very helpful. I am 3/4 done my Bachelor's Degree here and I've had a great time so far!

I do not recommend Capilano at all. First, they do not do research and they manage the institute like a college. Some staff;such as, Victoria and Malanie (at registrar) are mean and not helpful. It seams that they would like to keep you at Capilano more to get money from you.
Academic Adviser do not provide you enough information and they try to get rid of you soon. The academic program is strange as well; they might put you in certificate and encourage you to take night classes! They do not have co-op education either.
About the student union I can say that its awful. Some staffs there like Sarah and Christopher are selfish and mean. They talk to you like you are from different planet. The student union is closed on summer and do not provide any services.
I can say that Capilano is not a university, but it is a poor college.

I am a current student here and I just love love this campus!
The campus has a very beautiful scenery and everyone is friendly. I find that my instructors are very helpful and are very caring, especially when it comes to their students learning the course material.
