At McMaster, we are devoted to the cultivation of human potential. We are committed to taking a collaborative approach to improving people’s lives, contributing to global knowledge and advancing the health and well-being of the world around us. One of the ways we fulfil this commitment is by pioneering groundbreaking research in fields ranging from health care to business, arts and culture to advanced manufacturing. Our discoveries include:

  • The use of radiation science to study artifacts from ancient civilizations.
  • The latest integration of music and motion-capture technology to create a dance app for Parkinson’s treatment.
  • The application of ethics research to address challenges and policy gaps in global economics, health and development.

Founded in 1887, McMaster University is one of only five Canadian universities (and one of only two in Ontario) consistently ranked among the top 100 in the world by the major global ranking systems. A medical-doctoral, research-intensive university, McMaster is dedicated to teaching, learning and service. In the 1960s, we pioneered the problem-based approach to learning that came to be known around the world as "the McMaster model".

Home to more than 70 research centres and institutes, McMaster is comprised of six faculties: The DeGroote School of Business, and the Faculties of Engineering, Health Sciences, Humanities, Science, and Social Sciences. With a total full-time student population of more than 31,000, McMaster welcomes students from 107 countries as well as Canada. The percentage of undergraduates registering with an admission average of 90 per cent and above has risen from 13.5 per cent in 2000 to 35.84 per cent in 2016.

McMaster's main campus, located in the Westdale neighbourhood of Hamilton, Ontario, is comprised of 300 acres of scenic property at the western end of Lake Ontario, between Toronto and Niagara Falls. Our 30-acre central core is designated for pedestrians and bicyclists. Nearby attractions include Cootes Paradise, the Bruce Trail, the Waterfront Trail, the Royal Botanical Gardens, and the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. McMaster University also has four regional campuses: downtown Hamilton, Burlington, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Niagara

McMaster University has truly transformed my son's academic journey with its exceptional education and ever-supportive staff, fostering remarkable growth and confidence in him.

Worst experience of my life, thank goodness I’ve finished my program. Wouldn’t recommend social sciences or humanities here. Some of the profs not all are stuck up and believe they know absolutely everything and are not willing to accommodate for emergencies or extenuating circumstances.

Spacious campus, medical school, divinity school, engineering, commerce school, in winter there are heated underground channel to walk between classes. Comfortable Library. Well equip edge Halls of Residence.

McMaster is a fantastic school with unique programs. Their focus on interdisciplinary and inquiry based education is unique and so valuable. My experience there in the Engineering and Society Program was a wonderful start to my education and career.

It's definitely a good place to learn; in here I'm not only getting a degree but also my life! Unlike some of other 'suicide' schools; you will get a life at McMaster!

Great employer and great staff. There are plenty of programs offered here and the environment is very positive.

Greatest university I could've asked for to do my undergrads. Prof is very knowledgeable and students are very friendly and easy going. Incredibly diverse and lots of student groups. Don't get me wrong - classes are no jokes and you WILL want to pull your hair out during finals. Most students eventually will find a way to deal with stress by partying hard!

Great school for engineering programs with good professors who knows their stuff relating to the program and their topics. Great environment, clean school and many buildings to travel around, see new things and meet new people. I would recommend this school for engineering technology program, even though it's not easy and independent work is required, but at the end you could learn a lot and leading to big success.

Good learning environment for engineering, however does not fully prepare students for life after university. 'How to succeed after university' workshops are optional thru Oscarplus, they should be mandatory. A degree does not guarantee success; it is 100% up to the graduate to make their own success happen after university with diligent work habits and fostering growth through adversity

I graduated from Mac twice with three degrees, met my husband here, we got married on campus, had our son at the McMaster teaching hospital after finishing my Master’s degree and I brought him with me (at 3 months old) across the stage for my second convocation, Fall 2017! I love McMaster University!! <3
