At McMaster, we are devoted to the cultivation of human potential. We are committed to taking a collaborative approach to improving people’s lives, contributing to global knowledge and advancing the health and well-being of the world around us. One of the ways we fulfil this commitment is by pioneering groundbreaking research in fields ranging from health care to business, arts and culture to advanced manufacturing. Our discoveries include:
Founded in 1887, McMaster University is one of only five Canadian universities (and one of only two in Ontario) consistently ranked among the top 100 in the world by the major global ranking systems. A medical-doctoral, research-intensive university, McMaster is dedicated to teaching, learning and service. In the 1960s, we pioneered the problem-based approach to learning that came to be known around the world as "the McMaster model".
Home to more than 70 research centres and institutes, McMaster is comprised of six faculties: The DeGroote School of Business, and the Faculties of Engineering, Health Sciences, Humanities, Science, and Social Sciences. With a total full-time student population of more than 31,000, McMaster welcomes students from 107 countries as well as Canada. The percentage of undergraduates registering with an admission average of 90 per cent and above has risen from 13.5 per cent in 2000 to 35.84 per cent in 2016.
McMaster's main campus, located in the Westdale neighbourhood of Hamilton, Ontario, is comprised of 300 acres of scenic property at the western end of Lake Ontario, between Toronto and Niagara Falls. Our 30-acre central core is designated for pedestrians and bicyclists. Nearby attractions include Cootes Paradise, the Bruce Trail, the Waterfront Trail, the Royal Botanical Gardens, and the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Worst experience of my life, thank goodness I’ve finished my program. Wouldn’t recommend social sciences or humanities here. Some of the profs not all are stuck up and believe they know absolutely everything and are not willing to accommodate for emergencies or extenuating circumstances.
By Peyton Ansaldo-Winters (May, 2018) |
Spacious campus, medical school, divinity school, engineering, commerce school, in winter there are heated underground channel to walk between classes. Comfortable Library. Well equip edge Halls of Residence.

McMaster is a fantastic school with unique programs. Their focus on interdisciplinary and inquiry based education is unique and so valuable. My experience there in the Engineering and Society Program was a wonderful start to my education and career.
By Katie Jim (Apr, 2018) |
It's definitely a good place to learn; in here I'm not only getting a degree but also my life! Unlike some of other 'suicide' schools; you will get a life at McMaster!
By Rex chen (Mar, 2018) |
Great employer and great staff. There are plenty of programs offered here and the environment is very positive.
By Ahmad Sarhan (Mar, 2018) |
Greatest university I could've asked for to do my undergrads. Prof is very knowledgeable and students are very friendly and easy going. Incredibly diverse and lots of student groups.
Don't get me wrong - classes are no jokes and you WILL want to pull your hair out during finals. Most students eventually will find a way to deal with stress by partying hard!
By Lee Kelvin (Mar, 2018) |
Great school for engineering programs with good professors who knows their stuff relating to the program and their topics. Great environment, clean school and many buildings to travel around, see new things and meet new people.
I would recommend this school for engineering technology program, even though it's not easy and independent work is required, but at the end you could learn a lot and leading to big success.
By Ramon Nizamuddin (Feb, 2018) |
Good learning environment for engineering, however does not fully prepare students for life after university. 'How to succeed after university' workshops are optional thru Oscarplus, they should be mandatory. A degree does not guarantee success; it is 100% up to the graduate to make their own success happen after university with diligent work habits and fostering growth through adversity
By K2ACP Spaghti (Jan, 2018) |
I graduated from Mac twice with three degrees, met my husband here, we got married on campus, had our son at the McMaster teaching hospital after finishing my Master’s degree and I brought him with me (at 3 months old) across the stage for my second convocation, Fall 2017! I love McMaster University!! <3
By Samantha Leigh (Nov, 2017) |
One of the best universities for higher education in Canada . Be it art science or engineering... math or medicine.. with a lot of fun and enjoyment.. this place is could make you feel like heaven ?
By kavitha neelangol (Oct, 2017) |
great university, a lot of my close friends got great jobs after graduating from here...but its really sad to see when some people graduate from here, but end up working in a call center for minimum wage, with no benefits, no human resources, and a pay stub that looks like a joke. Those people really give Mcmaster university a bad name.
By Ruff BlaZa (Sep, 2017) |
This university seems to find a new way to grab cash, which is enrolling as many international students as possible. Don't get me wrong, I'm an international student, but it doesn't mean I feel comfortable about them enrolling those international students without even selecting them.
By Alvin Sun (Sep, 2017) |
Sad institution opposed to free speech and respectful dialogue. Anti intellectual and oppressive to young minds striving and failing to understand the world around them. Shame on these small women and men that call themselves professors.
By Dice L (Sep, 2017) |
My children's school. We all love it.
There are some issues about school administration and efficient use of technology. For example, the online course registration and their counseling systems give you this feeling like they want you to make mistakes so you can spend more time and money to correct it. We, even more strongly, got this feeling last year when we heard that Chinese language course teacher is financed by Chinese government and the teacher was a member of Chinese intelligence service. They cancelled the course.
The way to finance it was so cheap and the solution is immature!
By Corner Point STUCCO (Jul, 2017) |
The best university and campus where you could wish to study. Motivating collegues and professors. My best period is always "winter at McMaster". If you are thinking to take the MD this is the right place for you guys!
By Lydia Johnson (Mar, 2017) |
The campus is beautiful (minus the hospital...). Plus the facilities for the most part are top notch (or being improved).
The Mac community is an extremely welcoming family no matter what your background or interests may be. As the classes getting smaller in upper a years the relationships formed with professors and classmates alike is amazing. I still connect with friends from University regularly. That being said it does have areas of improvement too. The food on campus is ridiculously overpriced and only the campus store has decent and well prices coffee. There is also an issue that more programs should offer true coop not just research based ones for a thesis. Overall I loved my four years as a labour studies student and am proud to call Maroon my colour of choice!
By Quinn Johnson (Mar, 2017) |
Thanks to McMaster's amazing reputation and overall high level of education I was able to obtain full-time employment in an engineering role within my last few weeks of studies. I am so glad I decided to go here and would go back again for another undergrad any day.
By Phil Dijkstra (Mar, 2017) |
Coming to McMaster University was undoubtably the best decision I have ever made! I have gained a fruitful education by virtue of it's world-class academics, and through the many unique experiences that the McMaster community has granted me!
By Ally Banfield (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster University has been my home for 3 years. I have been given the opportunity to learn and surround myself with like-minded, forward-thinking academics and individuals. I am grateful.
By Cordell Lewis (Mar, 2017) |
I'm an international student from the UK and so many people at McMaster have made me feel like I am at home. Such a friendly environment with outstanding teaching staff.
By Iain Fraser-Barker (Mar, 2017) |
The majority of my experience at McMaster was quite good, but the only thing that I found to be truly lacking was the mental health support for students. I had friends who had to wait months for appointments with the on-campus mental health professionals, who needed help much, much sooner than that. There was also no faculty advisors that supported representative team groups, so often when there were conflicts between group members, the individuals with the most power got their way within solutions that were quite less than equitable.
By Jamie Samantha (Mar, 2017) |
I graduated from Multimedia, then returned to do my Masters in Communications and New Media. I want to give it 5 stars, but let's be honest nothing is perfect and most places and experiences people have are what they make of them. The buildings are beautiful, some look like they are from Hogwarts, and if you are into that you will love it here. The sports teams are competitive and entertaining to watch and our Rec facilities are great, though sometimes overcrowded. (There are other gyms just off campus too though) The surrounding community is great, very quaint. Sometimes you will see deer and other wildlife on campus early in the morning. The entertainment on campus is always to tier too, great concerts!
Overall, I wouldn't change my mind about going there... twice. I also wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
By Cameron James (Mar, 2017) |
Thankful & overjoyed to go to an institution that cares so much about the individuals that choose to experience an academic & personal journey here . Blessed to have spent four years being taught what it means to be human which is due to the beautiful souls that exist on this campus. Proud to be a Marauder and will always love the colour maroon. Thank you.
By Patricia Kousoulas (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster has been my home for the past 5 years, and as I come up on the final month of my Undergrad I find myself doing a ton of contemplating on these years and what they have meant to me. I have found that I have grown as a person, that I have fully realized my potential and have strived for what I want in life. This wouldn't have been possible without all of the wonderful people I have met on this campus. Always will feel like I belong here.
By Sherri Murray (Mar, 2017) |
At first, I was scared to enter Mac since I realized this is an institution for higher learning and that I would not fit in accordingly. As time passed I adjusted to all of Mac's surroundings and environment, joined various clubs, made groups of great friends that I assure will live on. I even learned what it means to be independent as well which is a major milestone in life. I successfully accelerated through my studies at which I thought I was not capable of, wow did I ever doubt myself at most times. Continue being great Mac, after 4 years I have lived, laughed and learned. Wish i could repeat it over again!
By Sinisa Vrbada (Mar, 2017) |
This university is my home, and I'm so glad that I've gotten to spend the past three years here, learning and growing. It's unfortunate that people are judging this wonderful institution and its entire student population, faculty, and research contributions based on a video of a protest they didn't agree with, many without having ever stepped foot on our campus. I hope all of you rating McMaster 1 star and leaving nasty reviews get to come here someday and see how wonderful the university is. Or don't, I won't be too torn up. Much love to Mac.
By Julia Bandura (Mar, 2017) |
What McMaster has meant to me can probably never be fully put into words. It has become my home. It has given me a chance to become the person that I am today-even if certain challenges were thrown at me, I could always find support and I would do it all again. If I hadn't had come, I would still be that quiet person who just kept to themselves . I wouldn't have the amazing support system, friends, and job that keep me going, and I wouldn't have returned to complete that second degree.
By Kornelia Hiacynta (Mar, 2017) |
I love this school with all my heart. Coming here is the best decision I've ever made. In only one year at McMaster I feel like I've learned and grown both as student and as a person, more than I have in my entire life. I highly recommend McMaster to any prospective student!!
By Raluca Petria (Mar, 2017) |
Amazing institution. I've taken courses at other institutions across the country and world. Nothing compares to the education and the quality of professors at McMaster university. I wouldn't trade my undergrad at mac for anything else. Mac was my number one choice of universities when applying. I'm so happy that I chose this phenomenal institution. There is a reason why mac ranks as one of the top universities in the country. Great campus, professors, school spirit and quality of education!
By Zahra Haidari (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster is a fantastic community that supports a safe environment for ALL its students. It's called respect for your fellow human beings.
By Abbie Kaitlyn (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster is an amazing school full of open-minded, charismatic people and an immensely welcoming environment. Beautiful campus, beautiful people, and just a great institution overall! These past four years here have been the best of my life.
By Megan Alves (Mar, 2017) |
It's a very unequal university. Excessive funding, support, and attention goes into the engineering and science departments, while the arts struggle with contract-hired, super-niche staff leading courses outside of their specialty, pilot programs that fall short on review, and still no co-op for programs that Desperately Need Co-op. I don't think this will change in the near future, and it's understandable considering how much more funding the aforementioned programs bring in, but it's still something to keep in mind when considering this university for programs outside of science and engineering.
By Basia Kowalska (Mar, 2017) |
Prestigious institution it is. Education is great and opportunity to enhance your career is sky high. McMaster's community is very friendly which makes me feel more comfortable and enjoying to be part of. Great individuals with great ambitions is great to see!
By Sikandar Tariq (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster University allowed me to get the broadest education that humanely could and I can't be more satisfied with it. I've never run into administrative problems and the student body is super supportive and kind. I've never wanted for anything and the professors are so generous!
By Sravani Duggina (Mar, 2017) |
This is literally my home. I love this place so much and the people I have met and will meet. I am so lucky and beyond happy to call Mac home <3
By Samidha Singhal (Mar, 2017) |
My time at McMaster has been an emotional roller coaster. I have experienced heart ache and failure more times than I'd like to admit but in the mist of all the challenge I became better because of it. McMaster has helped me grow and has helped me find a place through the student community it offers - the kindness and love I have been lucky to receive from its students has been the highlight of my university experience and a silver lining. University is not supposed to be an easy time, as growing up never is and I couldn't be happier to have chosen McMaster as the place to help me grow into the person I am today. Thank you.
By Angie LR (Mar, 2017) |
Not perfect, but genuinely trying to get better with almost every voice fighting to make sure every voice is heard. Plus you know, good academic education and all that, but the people are who truly make the school what it is. Don't believe me? I can introduce you to the wonderful people who make everything, even bearing with the few people who are trying to put others down or silence the voices of people who aren't lucky enough to be given a microphone and stage from birth, worth it :) proud to attend this university..
By Bronwyn Barker (Mar, 2017) |
My first year here and I love it! I met so many great people and the staff care about you in which I love! I will never regret my decision of coming here as I'm looking forward to my upcoming years :).
By Eli Srouji (Mar, 2017) |
Coming to McMaster has easily been one of the best decisions I've ever made. While the education I've received has been excellent, it is the community of this university that sets it apart. Though it's never perfect, it strives every day to be an institution that is more inclusive and accepting - a place where everyone can be themselves and be celebrated for it.
By Ben Scheffel (Mar, 2017) |
At first, I was really apprehensive about coming to McMaster. I had never felt like I belonged in previous social settings and was scared that I would spend the next four years alone. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. McMaster is the first place where I have felt valued and confident in being who I am. There is never a day where I won't randomly bump into a friend while walking to class. The profs are so inspiring and class sizes are usually smaller in upper year courses, making it easy to gain one on one connections with profs and learn things you would not have the chance to in huge lectures. On top of all that, Mac has a beautiful campus no matter what season! I am so glad I get to call this place home!
By Haley Greene (Mar, 2017) |
A university campus is ground zero for the free exchange of ideas, thoughts, and opinions. It's where we come to learn, experience, think, research, create, and debate. It's where we challenge bad ideas with good ideas, and good ideas with better ideas. That is what McMaster University is about, what makes us great, and why I chose to be here. I know I share this belief with many other students, staff, and our president.
By Gurjot Sehmbi (Mar, 2017) |
Although I am now at Queen's, my first year at McMaster was one that will never be forgotten. The sense of community instilled throughout that institution is unparalleled regardless of where you go. Albeit I don't know the details of the event that took place on Friday, McMaster absolutely deserves a glowing recommendation.
By Ali Zia (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster is home to me and I love it with all my heart and soul ❤️ Incredible programs, staff, campus, oppourtunties and above all, a phenomenal and loving community ❤️❤️ I've never been happier
By Armand Miguel Acri (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster is an incredible school that I had the pleasure of attending for 4 years. The opportunities available to me and the strong community that I was welcomed to have changed my life for the better!
By Sarah Freeman (Mar, 2017) |
By April 2017, this place will have given me MUCH more than a degree. The last four years have been so full of opportunity, and without a doubt those opportunities have helped shape who I am today. I'm proud to be completing my undergrad as a more confident leader, scholar, and friend. Thank you to the McMaster community for continually working towards providing a safe and inclusive environment where hateful rhetoric is not tolerated <3
By Iman Banerji (Mar, 2017) |
If McMaster were a high school student, it would be the smart, funny, facially attractive kid who also works part-time, volunteers, is in a bunch of clubs and yet STILL miraculously prioritizes being nice to everyone they meet.
That's just the Mac vibe-- the school has great faculty and talented students, yet isn't elitist. It's full of diversity but isn't disconnected. It has a close-knit sense of community and tons of school pride, but isn't cult-like. In my four years of meeting people at Mac, I don't think I ever encountered a single person who wasn't kind-hearted, welcoming, and passionate about making the world a better place. Mac definitely impacted me in so many good ways, and it will always be home <3
By Sarah Benedict (Mar, 2017) |
It was my first choice, my last acceptance to receive, and the best decision ever made! Class of 2006, and feels like home every time I visit! Love MAC!
By Sarika Persaud (Mar, 2017) |
I started at Mac as a part time "mature" student with an idea of what I wanted to study. I left years later with a degree in the field I love and with wonderful memories that will last me forever.

Coming to McMaster University has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life. I will always hold this university dearly in my heart and will always consider this place home <3

I'm going to be graduating this year, and all I can say is wow-thanks mcmaster for providing me with an amazing 4 years! I truly love this school and all of the people I have met.
By Ember Pepper-Dawes (Mar, 2017) |
Going to McMaster is by far one of the best decisions I've made. I was an international student, and loved everything about Mac right from day one - the campus, residences, facilities, dining, events, services and most of all, the people. I made a lot of great memories, friendship and bonds that will last a lifetime, not to mention excellent professors and faculry members who are always available and more than happy to guide you. 5 years after graduating from Mac, it still feels like home and I wouldn't choose another university is I had to do it all over again. Lots of love for the people and this university.
By Yashodini Aglaea Natarajan (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster felt like home and still does. The inclusive community always made me feel like I had a place there and the challenging curriculum and excellent teaching staff pushed me to get where I am today. So much love for this school.
By Brittney Marson (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster is an amazing school with amazing professors. The problem however is the extreme political influence enforced by a small group group of students who push to silence all that disagree. The administration, and Dr. Dean have no blame in this.. it is our job as the students of McMaster to push back, and continue to encourage free and open discourse of conversation at the school. Because, if you can't speak freely at a university, where can you speak ?
By Dan Valeriu (Mar, 2017) |
The four years that I spent at McMaster university left me with some of my closest friends, wonderful memories and a solid education built on critical inquiry, confidence in challenging the status quo and collaborative problem solving.
By Andrea Somers (Mar, 2017) |
Campus is nice and compact, and Hamilton location is nice.
The group of people at the university is constantly changing. Your experience depends on who you meet and what you do. McMaster like other universities, is a bunch of students in a new place looking to make friends and try new things.
By Coby Jets-fool Martin (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster will forever be my home. This school taught me to work extremely hard, it made me realize my potential, and it introduced me to the most helpful and well-balanced individuals that I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I been inspired and moulded by the passion and work ethic of multiple faculty members. I have grown and been forced to up my game time and time again. I will always recommend McMaster, and no one could sway me from thinking that it's the greatest school in Canada.
By Katie Baldwin (Mar, 2017) |
The McMaster community is honestly like no other. You can go anywhere to get an education, it takes a special place like this to feel like you're part of something bigger. The university, faculty, and peer-to-peer support us what has made this university a place worth calling home.
By Becca Weatherall (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster has helped shape my perspectives and understanding of the world around me. Thanks to McMaster, I have learned to appreciate and respect other perspectives. Also, thanks to my classes, professors, fellow classmates, clubs, and student activists for helping me be more critical about the information presented. Our education, experience and involvement in the community (local and abroad) are our tools that will continue to shape our worlds and those around us.
By Rayan Harmoush (Mar, 2017) |
The people at McMaster are so friendly, kind and welcoming. The profs and T.A's are wonderful and help you succeed in any way they can.
By Tiana Cortina (Mar, 2017) |
I wasn't so sure about my choice of university at first because I had never seen McMaster before and didn't know too much about it before enrolling, but I'm very glad I did. From the huge sense of community here where everyone seems to have each others' back without any former association, to the ability to form close connections with professors and get all the help you need that just may be specific to my small program, everything about it seems like my idea of the perfect learning environment. Welcome week was 5 years ago but it was one of the funnest experiences I've ever had. The clubs are very active and unique, the campus events a lot of fun, and the campus is just beautiful oh lord. So many great places to hang out with friends or take ur boo. The libraries are great and abundant. The gym facilities are enormous and give you access to such a surprisingly wide range of activities and classes. The sidewalk sale and concerts are some of my most looked forward to things LOL. No fluffing over here, I actually love all these things about the school.
By MD Fahim Rashad (Mar, 2017) |
The past 3 years of my life have been the best because of this school. Thank you to the administration, all Mac students, and the community for providing me with a world class education and so many life enriching experiences <3
By Abby Morrison (Mar, 2017) |
My time so far at McMaster has been wonderful. I have never regretted my decision to study here. The amazing profs and students here have made my time both valued and memorable.
By Alex Koschate (Mar, 2017) |
I did not attend McMaster University in first year, but I made the switch and it was the best decision of my life. I actually felt like I belonged here. It's been three years since then, and I cannot promise that McMaster will feel like home to you as well, but I can say that it is an amazing school.
McMaster has a multitude of clubs and organizations to join. From what I have personally experienced, McMaster has a lot of school pride, and it is an amazing experience to be a part of that. Hamilton is full of adventures (hiking, waterfalls, coffee shops, amazing restaurants, 100in1day, Supercrawl etc).
By Alana Jean (Mar, 2017) |
I am so happy I made the decision to come to McMaster 5 years ago! Now that I have graduated I truly see how much I was apart of a wonderful community that felt more like a family! I received an amazing education and felt like I was always supported along the way! 10/10 would reccomend to future students! McMaster offers the tools for you to discover yourself and your passions!
By Emily Lietaer (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster will always be home to me. I met my best friend. My perspective to the world through my Political science major became broader. The route to landing my first international job in Japan all started at Mac. My loyalties lie there.
By Lamide Fagbure (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster gave me the experience of a lifetime. Learnt so much in the four years I spent there. Found what I am passionate about. McMaster shaped me into the person I am today. Met some amazing people and had some great profs.
By Ranja Nas (Mar, 2017) |
Anything less than a 5-star rating would be injustice to this great institution. McMaster provided an outstanding education, and was the primary spring board for my future career. If I had to do it all over again, I would return to McMaster without a shadow of doubt and within the blink of an eye.
By Zayn Iz (Mar, 2017) |
Outside of academics, it was overall great experience for me. I mingled and hung out with a hunch of great local as well as international friends. I learned immensely from them.
In terms of my program(guess the review very much depends on the program), it didn't advance my pro skills and knowledge as much as I thought it would. So it taints my rating in this sense.
On a side subject, I don't know what to compare since Mac is head and shoulder above my previous institution in terms of everything except for food satisfaction(lol, I miss Chinese dishes).
So three stars it is. I'm being relativist once again.
By Rooney Zhuang (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster University is a cowardly institution, that supports cultural marxism and is ANTI FREE SPEECH. Don't send your kids here.
By Tim Jones (Mar, 2017) |
Mac has a great dean (Dr. Patrick Deane), who recently made a public announcement about the importance of dialogue and being able to speak freely about ideas on uni campuses, many mac students were present at the Jordan Peterson talk, and the school is not overrun by leftist ideological Marxists. In my opinion it's one of the best schools in the country, doesn't get enough credit where credit is due, and the behaviour of just one small group of students should absolutely not be used to represent the whole. We are a diverse group of people with a diverse range of ideologies, and Mcmaster protects our rights to an education that will enable us to make decisions for ourselves about what to believe as individuals. This school has been nothing but home to me, and it was the best decision I ever made.
By Katheleen Eva (Mar, 2017) |
A poor excuse for a university, sadly this place of learning does not challenge its students with new ideas, rather forces ideologies on them for the sake of making small groups of people feel better about themselves
By Iwo Slodczyk (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster is a paramount institution for higher learning and academic freedom. Regressive, toxic behaviour in the face of Free Discourse does not define our campus, students or professors.
By Connor Davis (Mar, 2017) |
I am extremely proud to have graduated from McMaster. Easily the best 4 years of my life thus far. All of you that are now knocking the school because you disagree with the outcome of recent events.. Shame! You shouldn't be trying to cast doubt on the school as a whole because you are upset with what happened.
By Chris Lim (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster University is easily the best educational institution in Canada. Met some of the brightest minds, here, at McMaster University. I am very thankful for going to such a beautiful school.
By Mina Hanna (Mar, 2017) |
Research facilities here at McMaster are world-leading, the resources are bountiful, but it is the colleagues that you will learn and grow together with and foster collaboration with that will put you on your career path. Make sure to reach out to ensure you meet these people. They will not come looking for you - you need to make yourself resourceful and available. I look forward to developing my career path with this institution even after graduating.
By Samuel Suntharalingham (Mar, 2017) |

Grateful for the passionate and dedicated individuals in the McMaster community I have had the opportunity to meet and learn from.
By Cassandra Litwinchuk (Mar, 2017) |
Attending McMaster was the single best decision I've ever made. The student community is incredible, the academics are top notch, the events are award winning, and the people are great. My journey so far has shaped who I am today and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
By Ryan Threndyle (Mar, 2017) |
My time at McMaster taught me to be a kinder, more open human being with a greater understanding of the power of speech in society. McMaster showed me how people - especially students - can band together to build communities, foster growth and progress, and fight hatred and oppression.
By Anser Abbas (Mar, 2017) |
McMaster gave me an opportunity that I wouldn't have received anywhere else. Their dedication to employing some of the most influential professors in the world provided me with the skillset I needed to grow as an academic and subsequently is the reason I am where I am today. I owe so much of my life's fulfilment to this institution. Thanks for everything, Mac.

Imagine your favourite sweater in campus form. That's Mac for you. And then some. I could not have dreamed of a better place to do my undergrad than this school. I love this school with all my heart and it will most likely be one of the favourite chapters of my life! <3

Ultimately, studying at Mac helped me become an avid learner, helped me think about the big picture and gave me a taste of so many different disciplines that I was able to discover on my own what I wanted to pursue as a career. Mac is always pushing for innovation in its degree programs, pushing for better facilities and classroom spaces for students, and pushing students to make an impact in our community, and for that, I'm grateful.

The four years I spent at McMaster helped me truly develop into an adult capable of facing the "real world" with problem-solving, critical thinking and analytical skills. In my time here I was fortunate to learn from researchers and professors at the top of their fields doing cutting edge research, and that helped me realize how approachable---how hands-on---science is and how it applies to every day life.

McMaster University is Home.
It is a community of individuals who have embraced me for who I am. The people here have fostered a safe space for all identities and I'm honoured to be a student at this university. I've met so many incredibly inspiring individuals who I know will be lifelong friends. I've never felt so welcomed in my life.

McMaster as an institution has been a place where i have been able to educate myself and gain the educational foundation set to guide the rest of my life. Unfortunately the student protesters are in the wrong for limiting the speech of Dr Jordan Peterson, however that is a reflection of those students and their personal politics. To rate this institution 1 star for the actions of 20 or so students is a disservice to the school. Blame should be placed on those groups and students, not on the institution. If anything the school should be praised for its approval of the event in the first place.

This university has made some mistakes. Other universities have made the same mistakes. Are you really going to belittle the school for this when it has already taken action against the people involved? I, for one, am proud to attend McMaster; a fantastic school with incredible opportunities for anyone who attends it. Nothing less to be said, as anyone would be lucky to visit or attend this school.

PROS: Good school with an amazing student community. Student services were abundant and helpful. Beautiful campus. Extra-curricular programs were amazing - helped me build valuable career skills and make life-long friends. School colours looked great with my complexion.
CONS: Starbucks came in after I left. Food is sub-par. Bathrooms use one-ply toilet paper. Infrastructure isn't where it should be to properly support a student population of that size. My degree didn't get me my career.

Choosing McMaster as my place of study was the best decision I could have made. Our school is a diverse and incredible group of individuals who are much more than what the public may see. For any wrongdoing by a population at McMaster, there are countless events that originate or take place on that campus that are changing the world, in both small and vast ways. I could not be more proud to call myself a Marauder, and have the wonderful opportunity to study what I love at one of the best universities in the country, and the world.

The quality of education, fellow students and professors at McMaster University have changed my life and outlook for the future. I am more than proud to soon be a alumni of one of Canada's premier universities.

McMaster University has allowed me to broaden my horizons and exposed me to amazing learning opportunities. Only a few of those have been in the classroom: the rest have been the result of the caring and dedicated student community, who have helped me broaden the scope of my empathies to include people who are unlike me in every way.
The strong community that I have found amongst the student-run services in the MSU cannot be overstated: I am a better person because of it. I am so proud of my community and of my school for imbuing in me the passion to always stand up for what is right instead of what is easy or what is polite. Thanks, Mac.

Been in love with this campus since I was a kid because my older brothers came here. Love the culture here and love how we have alot of support with the education. I felt like I made the right decision choosing this school,it's home for me now.

Mac has great programs, but that is it. The campus isn't the best, the food here really sucks. What mac really lies about is their diversity. If you have different viewpoints than others, you will be told to not share your opinion. They like to have only one side of viewpoints present on campus. The most recent thing I am upset about is how mac students responded to Dr. Peterson. They were disrespectful, saying inappropriate slurs to him and did not allow him to speak. Mac really needs to do some changing around.

For me, it took 4 years to realize that the McMaster community is like no other. How McMaster students from all walks of life can come together in an instant to fight hatred, bigotry, injustices, and to help those in need—this is what will stick with me for years to come.
Thanks, truly, to everyone I’ve had the honour of meeting here. You’re all going to change the world for the better.

It's absolutely ridiculous to base your entire opinion of an institution on the action of a handful of students. I spent 4 amazing, challenging and life-changing years at McMaster. Anyone would be lucky to be able to gain a higher education here!
By Maryam Davari (Mar, 2017) |
My no longer best kept secret: While some may say it's a specific building or a historic hallway, the most beautiful place to stand on campus is actually where University Ave and Scholars Rd intersect. It's the perfect place to just pause -witness thousands of students moving in different directions, each with their own story - while simultaneously finding a home in it all. Try it.

I love McMaster. I went to school here so I'm biased, but it acts like a great, giant, interconnected think tank. A lot of the faculties (in the upper years at least) end up taking courses where you meet different people. Engineers in psychology, science students working on sustainability with environmental science students, if you look for it McMaster supports an interdisciplinary approach to solving problems. It does have some faults, but so does every other university out there.

A decent institution and place to study and work but their parking rates for visitors and staff/faculty/students are ridiculously high. Their new MOSAIC/PeopleSoft/ERP system must be one of the biggest wastes of money in Canadian University history.
By Mike Tibbar (Mar, 2017) |
I love McMaster. The doctors are very knowledge and there is always somebody to see you, it is not good for people who want just one doctor. Having several doctors is good (for me) it is different for everybody but I enjoy my team

Great school with great profs. Whenever you have an issue, there is always someone to help/ answer your question. I'm very happy I chose McMaster.
By Tyler Marr (Mar, 2017) |
Great place and academic environment. A wide variety of clubs and groups to join.
My only concern is the food. If you stay in residence for a year (which most people do), they force you into a meal card, which is about 3000$. Now if you don't spend your money before a certain date, it all 'expires' and you can no longer access it. But that's if you somehow manage to still have any money left, after paying for overpriced, ridiculously low quality food. Another issue is that if you are following a special diet (kosher, gluten free, vegan) you pretty much can't stay on campus.

One of the best university in Canada. It's a great learning environment and the people here are very friendly. The professors are cool and most of them are very approachable and they are very knowledge. I highly recommend choosing this school for your post-secondary education. Go Mac Go!

Beautiful facility and grounds. With the addition of the Sick Children's Hospital adjacent to the University itself. Ample transit and parking available. Security is top notch also. ?

Terrible place to send your kids if you want them to understand concepts such as freedom of speech, equality of opportunity and diversity of thought. If you want your kids to become intellectually deficient social justice automatons. Then McMaster is the place for you.

It's a very different environment from anything you have ever experienced in your life. Everyone is here to learn and it just encourages you to give more and more of your time, your knowledge and your dedication to the work you are doing.

Mid-sized university with intense research atmosphere. Ranked within top 100 universities in the world and top 4 in Canada. Located in a safe and peaceful area. Convenient transportation to downtown Hamilton.

Great University, Great place to grow and learn!
The campus is not too big and not too small. I can get many resources and support both academically and financially.
By Vicki Zhang (Mar, 2016) |
Great campus close that backs onto a nature reserve allowing for anyone to enjoy school and nature at the same time. Some residences are nicer than others. If you are accepted to Les Prince residence, it would be wiser to drop it and find a house off campus for cheaper and closer. Tons of libraries to allow for students to study unlike a lot of other universities.

I love being a McMaster graduate. This university is beautiful, safe, and upholds its reputation as Canada's most innovative university. Some extremely successful, influential, and internationally recognized professors teach here. The degree you will earn here is prestigious. McMaster is the leading school in Canada in terms of medical and science research. Their nursing, engineering, and business programs are absolutely some of the best around. There are issues with every university, and I will admit parking is AWFUL (pricey and far away if you're a student) but that's probably going to be an issue anywhere you go.
By Ali C (Mar, 2016) |
McMaster is an outstanding university and the actions of a small group of (unfortunately disruptive) protestors at Dr. Peterson's lecture in no way reflect the behaviour of the entire institute or its whole student body. The university provides a very healthy environment for critical discussions, and it should not be held responsible should a small number of students refuse to embrace this attitude. I will always be grateful to McMaster for promoting free speech and teaching me to respectfully challenge opinions during a very impressional time in my life.
By Akshita SK (Jun, 2015) |
I haven't had a great experience at McMaster. I find the campus to be extremely overcrowded, I had a lot of profs that spoke with thick accents that made it very difficult to understand them and a lot of places are so dirty that it absolutely disgusts me.
By Brandon Sarabdial (Feb, 2015) |
Excellent professors that care about the quality of education they provide. Engaging research and career opportunties and world class leaders in their respective fields. McMaster has a beautiful campus, tons of wildlife, and a well-established neighbourhood for students to thrive in. Although the city of Hamilton has been historically known as a steel manufacting city, there are countless intitatives (Entrepreneural, scientific, environmental, engineering) hosted both by the university and the community that show great potential in shaping the city's future.
Speaking as a science graduate, McMaster is home to world-class research in the fields of: Health care, Life Sciences, Engineering, Physical Sciences, and many more.

I am the first in my family to ever go to a top ranked school in Canada. They make sure your education is not only high-quality but also uninterrupted by any problems and there are always people here to help. The alumni are always noted for their achievements. Every graduate is almost guaranteed to go far. This is place where degrees aren't bought, sold or forged. If you get it, you earned it and you should give yourself a big pat on the back for it.
