RMC is now over one hundred years old. It was established by an act of the Canadian Parliament in 1874 ""for the purpose of providing a complete education in all branches of military tactics, fortification, engineering, and general scientific knowledge in subjects connected with and necessary to thorough knowledge of the military profession."" On June 1, 1876, the Military College of Canada opened its doors to the first class of eighteen gentlemen cadets. These are the ""Old Eighteen,"" known by name to all cadets today. Two years later, in 1878, Her Majesty, Queen Victoria, granted the College the right to use the prefix ""Royal.""

""The Royal Military College of Canada Degrees Act, 1959,"" passed by the 25th Ontario Legislature and given Royal Assent on March 26, 1959, empowers the College to confer degrees in Arts, Science, and Engineering. RMC now offers a wide variety of programmes in these three areas, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels offered both on site through traditional studies and by distance learning through the Division of Continuing Studies.

The mission of the Royal Military College of Canada (RMCC) is to produce officers with the mental, physical and linguistic capabilities and the ethical foundation required to lead with distinction in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). To accomplish this mission, RMCC delivers undergraduate academic programmes, together with a range of complementary programmes. These programmes are offered in both official languages. As Canada’s military university, RMCC also provides undergraduate and post-graduate programmes, and professional development education, both on campus and at a distance, to meet the needs of other members of the CAF and the Department of National Defence (DND). As a national institution, RMCC endeavours to share its knowledge with civilians with interest in defence issues. RMCC encourages research appropriate to a modern university and seeks out research opportunities that support the profession of arms.

At Collège militaire royal du Canada in Ontario, the dedication of the staff and the rigorous curriculum have been instrumental in my child's remarkable growth and confidence.

I just feel lucky I had the opportunity to have amazing, talented, full of knowledge teacher. With small classes and a lot of support! Being able to complete my degree half English half french!!! It's way better comparing to my experience in civilian university.

Beautiful campus, and lots of history and nice buildings. Cadets are professional but can party like no tomorrow. If you want to come out come during reunion weekend to watch the obstical course and see the college at its best.

An amazing education, an amazing institution. Part of the backbone of who I am, the most meaningful thing in my life after my faith and my family.
